The item sold as new wasn't new

Good evening everyone. In all my years on ebay, this is the first time something like this has happened to me: on October 23 I buy a wallet (which the seller says is new); they deliver the package to me on November 5; on November 24 I give it to the birthday girl (it was a birthday present).
In less than 15 days, the person who received the gift sends me a video: the wallet is crumbling!!!
I immediately wrote to the seller (who in the listing had stated that he did not accept returns) and now I don't know what to do... I knew it was fake leather, but even though it was never used, probably the way it was stored (in addition to the time that had passed) made it unusable. Besides the cost of the item, I spent, between shipping and taxes because it was outside Italy, double that. For an item to throw in the trash! Besides the embarrassment, I can't get in touch with the seller.
What would you do in my place?
Please help me. I can't even upload the images, they are in an unsupported format. Thanks for reading this far
