Item sold and paid for but still listed in current ads | Questions and answers among users

I sold an item and, normally, the listing disappears from the current listings automatically. Instead, even though I received an email from eBay saying the buyer has made the payment, the sold item still remains among the listings. I don't know whether it would be appropriate to remove it manually and whether there is some reason for this unusual system behavior. Can someone help me? Thanks.
