Customs duties and VAT paid twice
Hi everyone, I think this has already happened to others, so the answer is probably simple.
I bought an item from the USA, worth about €70 (€40 for the item and €30 for shipping), and paid about 20 USD in VAT to eBay. When it arrived here in Italy, I paid another €19 (about the same 20 USD as before) to the post office. It can’t just be fees, clearly I paid VAT again too.
Who should reimburse me? And how do you ask for a refund?

Mentore2 years agoWith the receipt for what you paid at the post office, you can ask eBay for a refund.
Theoretically, with the receipt for what you paid to eBay, you could also ask the post office for a refund. However, I believe the first option is the easier one to pursue.
You can find the receipt for the VAT paid to eBay.....
In cases where eBay collected VAT, you will see the VAT included in the order total at checkout. In addition, the tax invoice will be available and downloadable from the Order Details page in your Purchase History.
Form to request a refund of VAT paid in excess:
