order cancelled by the seller
hello,
I joined not long ago hoping to be able to get a few things for the house without having to keep going out all the time, and I immediately ran into something I wasn't expecting.
I'll explain: I decided to take part in an auction for some items, and, incredibly but true, I managed to win it, paid, and went to bed happy. The next day I went to check on a few other little things and saw that the seller had cancelled the sale, and on top of that had sent me a message asking if I was a certain user... I was completely thrown off, so I replied straight away to try to get an explanation because I have no idea what he's talking about. The fact is he never replied again; luckily the amount I paid was refunded, but I really don't understand this attitude.
Let's say he confused me with someone else, but at least reply and let's clear it up. Besides, I really needed those items and unfortunately I'll have to find them some other way.
Then I wanted to try making an offer for another item he had for sale and it returned an error message saying I couldn't place bids (error 3008), and that I had to contact the seller, but if the guy is nuts and doesn't answer, what am I writing him for?
I'm kind of laughing it off now, but this morning I was a bit annoyed and, as always, my poor saint of a husband took the brunt of it.
What do you think I should do, contact eBay and report the thing?
Tell me what you think, since you've been around a long time because I don't know how to handle it.
best regards.

Mentore3 years agoProbably the seller mixed you up with someone else (probably from your same city) and so put you on the blacklist; he doesn't want to have any contact with you.
On eaby there are lots of sellers, just look elsewhere.

OP3 years agohi mario,
first of all, thanks for replying, but how does this blacklist thing work? I mean, if I send him a message, does he not see it at all, is that why he isn’t replying to me? Or does he see it and, b...dy about his own stuff with other users, he just doesn’t reply? I’m asking because I read the FAQs but I didn’t really understand this thing very well.
anyway, aside from that, I’d also like to make a small reflection for other people who are coming here for the first time to this buying and selling place.
it’s unacceptable that a company that presents itself as a place of mediation between sellers and buyers allows certain behaviors. the very fact that sellers have the power to exclude from buying and selling whatever buyers they feel like is in itself arbitrary, and lends itself to various interpretations, some also illegal, since they could be targeted sales to specific buyers because they hide unlawful purposes.
second, when a transaction has been completed according to the rules that govern it, it is illegal for the seller to cancel it at will; by their nature, buying and selling transactions are bilateral acts and once concluded, to dissolve them can only be done by mutual consent, unilaterally only if there is a defect.
third, yes, I had my five catartic minutes, eBay, if it wants to remain the marketplace I signed up for and I think everyone wants to use, must definitely take proper action against all these pseudo-merchants, because either they are not able to manage a business or they are hiding other purposes, excluding them or sanctioning them appropriately for their senseless or fraudulent actions, as happens in everyday reality.
sorry, I let myself go a bit but this thing still really bothers me.
regards.

No, it isn’t, on eBay both sellers and buyers can choose not to sell or not to pay even if the other party doesn’t agree.

OP3 years agohi cizeta,
but what are you telling me, so is this what this place is.
so if a person buys something they can’t relax until they have it in their hands because it could be that the seller changes their mind and doesn’t sell it to them anymore and maybe doesn’t even refund them he! vice versa a merchant sells goods to someone and they take them without paying for them. are you kidding me!
but do the marketplace owners know what’s happening and are they okay with it being this way? here the competent authorities should be informed because if it’s really like you say, who knows how many other people are wasting time for nothing hoping to be able to buy or sell something or, in the worst case, will be scammed by shameless people.

Mentore3 years agoIn my opinion, just reading the rules is enough... If you don't like them or don't agree, then sell/buy somewhere else.
If you then think that warning the competent authorities helps force people, in distance sales, to sell and buy “forcibly” even if one later changes their mind... Go ahead and then let us know

OP3 years agohi,
sorry, but it seems to me that I wrote clearly what happened to me, and it has nothing to do with what you wrote. besides, just so we’re clear, if I go into a shop and buy a pair of shoes, I PAY the shopkeeper, walk out, and shortly after he changes his mind and comes after me saying: no, don’t go away, give me back the shoes you bought and I’ll give you your money back, I am NOT obliged to accept his offer! now is that clearer!
don’t get me wrong, it’s not my intention to argue but to shed light and maybe get someone who can to intervene on an issue that, from what I’ve been able to read, has affected not only me but also many other people unaware that certain things can happen here because in reality that’s not how it is.
I don’t think eBay is aware of all these incidents, perhaps because many people don’t even report them, they simply stop buying or selling after a bad experience and turn to other places; otherwise I think the marketplace managers would have stepped in long ago to put an end to certain things, which, incidentally, are not mentioned in the rules!
well, I’ve said what I wanted to say and I hope it can be of help to someone.
best regards.

Mentore3 years agoI read what you wrote, and I replied pertinently: it’s impossible to compare online sales with offline sales, the reasons are obvious.
On top of that, eBay has its own set of rules, more or less agreeable, more or less fair, but they need to be read before, not after, precisely so you don’t end up disappointed.
It certainly knows how it works, and evidently it’s fine with it, otherwise it would change.
What you wrote happens almost every day, both on the part of sellers and buyers, mainly because no one checks beforehand, believing that all marketplaces work the same way, when in fact that’s not the case at all.
An even worse mistake is believing that offline commerce works like online commerce, when in reality there’s nothing more different, even on an administrative level.
