Tracked package lost by the courier, no refund if it contains records
Very simple story: I sell vinyl records in Germany and ship with Bartolini through eBay. The package arrives in Germany at the DPD branch in Heilbroon and disappears off the radar. I file a complaint with eBay, which gets no response from the carrier. After a week the Packlink assistant suggests I open a claim for lost package, which I do. After another week, another Packlink assistant named Valeria (but I suppose it’s a bot)
informs me that vinyl records are a prohibited item because they are considered vintage since they are over 50 years old. I politely reply that the records sold are less than 50 years old, only to be told that it doesn’t matter, since vinyl record technology is over 20 years old and therefore it is still a vintage/antique item, regardless of when the record was made.
Does anyone find this answer sensible? I should add that this would be the minimum reimbursement of 35 euros.
In short, if I ship a package through eBay with insurance included up to 35 euros, the carrier can throw it in the toilet because if it contains a record, it doesn’t matter whether it was made yesterday or 10 years ago, they are not required to reimburse either the shipping cost or the contents of the package.
They remind me of those who used to sell fake car stereos at rest stops on the highways in the 80s
