Why should the buyer pay the shipping costs if the item isn't as they expected?

I don’t agree with the refund policy that says the buyer has to pay for shipping. If the item isn’t what I expected, and the description wasn’t accurate, I think it’s only fair that the seller should cover the costs, not the buyer. I lost money for no reason when it wasn’t specified that the power supply wasn’t via USB either. (I’m talking about camping lamps) I didn’t return them because I didn’t like them, but because they weren’t as the description made them out to be. I’d like Ebay to take a closer look at how these cases should be handled

Be careful, ebay follows the EU laws that regulate all distance selling.

So:

If the lamps do not match the description, the return shipping is the seller's responsibility.
If the lamps are not what the buyer imagined them to be, the return shipping is the buyer's responsibility.

So if it says the power supply is via a USB socket and that is missing, this is a non-conformity and, by selecting the correct reason, the return shipping will be the seller's responsibility (whatever the seller writes or says).
