Reserve price: why doesn't eBay remove it?
Good evening.
I find the reserve price in auctions to be a rather bad idea, as it can lead to unnecessary time wasting. I just took part in an auction in which the reserve price was not reached, even though I had bid a higher amount. I would like to know whether there are other people who agree with me, maybe to organize a protest group against this new feature.

Mentore3 years agoThe reserve price is not at all a new feature... it has existed since auctions have existed on eBay.
In any case, you can’t have bid more than the reserve price... otherwise you would have won the auction!
Kind regards.

OP3 years agoI didn’t know it was an existing feature, it was the first time I’d ever taken part in an auction with a reserve price. So I thought it was a new feature. In my opinion, though, it’s useless; you might as well just state the minimum price you want to sell at right from the start. In the end, nobody benefitted from it.
For the auction in question, I didn’t write that I had exceeded the reserve price, only that I had made the last bid before the auction closed. Without that feature, I would already have bought the item.
Thanks anyway for the reply.

Mentore3 years agoBut at that price the seller is not willing to part with their item. So this method is more honest, rather than having your purchase cancelled and wasting time waiting for a refund of what you paid unnecessarily.

OP3 years agoFor me, it's not a question of honesty, I simply see it as a superfluous feature. You might as well start the auction already at the price you want to sell the item for. In any case, it's the first time in 18 years I've been on eBay that I've come across one with a reserve price. I wasn't aware this feature existed; fortunately, it's used by few.

Mentore3 years agoYou might as well sell the item with Buy It Now... and you don't even have to wait for the auction to end!
Kind regards.
