Problems with a comic book I sold
Hi, I have a problem regarding a used comic book. The buyer received the comic but says that a page is missing (when I browsed through it I hadn’t noticed; in any case, it seems that a secondary black-and-white page is missing, the comic lettering, the stories are all intact). Even though in the listing I chose the wording returns not accepted, to meet him halfway I offered a full refund upon return of the comic, but he DEMANDS a full or partial refund without wanting to return the comic. That doesn’t seem like serious, good-faith behavior to me. Given the facts, it seems to me he’s just a little swindler. He opened a return request, I accepted, but I don’t understand why the costs should be on me and eBay is asking me to buy a label to send to the buyer so he can return the comic. Anyway, the buyer has made it clear to me several times that he does NOT intend to send the comic back to me; basically he DEMANDS a full or partial refund while keeping the comic!!! So why should I buy the label if the buyer has written to me that he has no intention of returning it?! The swindler just wants the refund. What should I do?

OP3 years agoJust to be clear, in the end I’m even willing to pay the shipping for him to send the comic back to me, but he clearly said he doesn’t want to return it; he’s aiming for a full or partial refund without sending it back. That’s why I consider him a sly little crook.

Mentore3 years agoSo you had to act to minimize the damage... you arranged the return at your own expense and the buyer was obliged to send it, otherwise ebay would have sided with you and you would have only “lost” the return shipping costs... if not used.
Now, after the technical processing time, if they ask ebay to step in, you will lose both money and the item...

OP3 years agobut I accepted the return, so why should I lose both the money and the item?! The buyer is dishonest who starts the return process without wanting to return anything!!!

Mentore3 years agoTo proceed correctly, you also had to provide the shipping label... basically at your expense.
Now, if you want the buyer to ship your item back, you MUST pay for the shipping, using whichever method you want...
Otherwise, if they ask eBay to step in, you will be held responsible and eBay will take the refund money from your account, and the buyer will have no obligation to return the item to you.

OP3 years agoI accepted the return but I clicked on the wording: I can't provide a label for other reasons. I wrote to him that since he accepted it, he has to send me back the comic, but he doesn't want to, he only wants the refund. So what should I do? Why is eBay asking me to buy the label if the user doesn't want to return it?!?! What should I do?

In the case of an item not as described, the return shipping costs are your responsibility by law.
