I made an offer for a book and I receive a counteroffer that I notice after 3 hours. I see that next to the counteroffer message there is immediately another one telling me that the item in question has been sold. Obviously at the original, not discounted, price, but I wonder whether, beyond a gain of a few euros, the seller could sell an item that was still being negotiated, given that the deadline for this transaction was set for the following day.

Mentore1 year agoOf course he can do it. The offer does not imply the possibility of blocking the item.
...... Every offer from the seller is valid for 48 hours or until the item is sold, whichever occurs first. In listings with a single item, the first buyer who accepts the offer gets the item.....

OP1 year agoSo the seller may have sold the item in question to another bidder who would have made a better offer than mine, but also to a direct buyer who may have bought it at the original set price, without going through the back-and-forth of (counter)offers. It’s the first time I’ve run into a situation like this and in previous cases, having had negotiations lasting several days without any 'interference', I had gotten the (wrong) idea that this kind of sale 'isolated' the two parties until a conclusion was reached. I’ll try to be quicker next time, assuming it’s worth it.
