Purchase protection
I bought an item from an English seller in June 2024. After a reasonable amount of time had passed without receiving the item, I opened a dispute with a simultaneous refund request to Ebay, having complied with all the clauses предусмотрed for this service. Given that the item in question was purchased for over € 700. I was stunned when they tried in every way to deflect responsibility for it. The package was even stuck at the Milan customs office, and they claimed it was ready for pickup, while the destination was Rome (I am here). Then they said delivery had been attempted and that I had not picked it up so as not to pay customs. The tracking from the post office and Royal Mail always showed that the item was stuck in customs. They told the worst lies and falsehoods just so as not to honor the buyer guarantee. In the end, after they closed the dispute and basically told me to sort it out myself. Naturally I have all the documents that prove their wrongdoing. Then after calling the post office and customs a thousand times, the item arrived on 05/11 and I paid the nice sum of € 5,13 in duties. Use ebay as an online catalog for valuable items. Then it's better to buy them outside ebay and pay cash on delivery. For small items worth a few euros, the risk is worth it and maybe they even refund you

Anyway, paying €5.13 for an import, you should consider yourself extremely lucky for a value of €700!
Very strange if you were expecting a refund and the item too!

OP1 year agoI absolutely would not have demanded a refund and the item. The package arrived only because I kept pushing Italian post and customs, and after “just” almost 5 months. Ebay was nowhere to be found and washed its hands of it, even claiming that the seller had provided more proof of delivery attempts that never happened, for which he also told me he had not given Ebay any such information. I wonder, and I ask, whether this is the right behavior to have and whether anyone knows how to defend oneself against these unfair practices by Ebay, if not by buying cash on delivery outside the platform

Ebay washed its hands of it also because it doesn’t handle shipping and deliveries; once the 30 days it allows for an item not received have passed, there’s PayPal and the credit card chargeback.
Buying with cash on delivery absolutely guarantees nothing, because if what’s inside the package isn’t what you ordered, you can’t do anything anymore, and of course the delivery person/courier isn’t going to wait for you to open it to check, and even if they do wait, they still can’t do anything.
