Unfortunately, this is a well-known issue on eBay, where buyer protection policies are often exploited by scammers (the so-called "defective return scam" or item swap), leaving private sellers with no protection. You did absolutely the right thing to request the account closure. Here’s what you need to know now to protect yourself legally and financially:What happens with account closureWaiting period: eBay does not delete the account immediately. It usually takes 30 days from the request (or up to 60 if you have sold recently) to verify that there are no pending transactions, open disputes, or fees to pay.If the balance is negative: If eBay has already refunded the scammer by drawing from your funds (putting your eBay balance into the negative), it will block the account deletion until the debt is paid off.How to block forced withdrawalsSince the new account entered has no credit, eBay will try to withdraw the money. To avoid them trying to go after the old account or you having to pay bounced-payment fees to the bank:Block the mandate at the source: Log in right away to the online banking of your old account (or contact the branch) and formally revoke the direct debit authorization (SDD/SEPA) in favor of eBay. This way the bank will reject any withdrawal attempt.

OP4 months agoEbay, under our Italian law, is complicit in a crime by favoring a scammer. This is not the first time it has happened to me and if you read the reviews and other forums, a mass complaint is about to be organized for the above, with related historic compensation against Ebay: SCAMMERS!!
