Return for a product that is not compatible

Hi guys, I have a problem. I bought a car part and before ordering it I contacted the seller to check compatibility by chassis number, and he confirmed it was compatible, but when it arrived at my house the part is not compatible and I want to return it. However, the return shipping is on me all the way to the United Kingdom. How should I deal with this, and can I open a dispute to make the seller cover the return, since he checked the compatibility for me and it doesn’t seem fair that I have to pay for the shipping myself! How should I handle this?
