Returning a damaged item, the seller offers an exchange

Good evening,I received a damaged microwave inside an intact box. I started a refund claim, then the seller proposed an exchange with a similar item.That’s fine with me, but to do it the seller is asking me to close the return claim. In the meantime, I read that by doing so I lose any chance of appealing if there are further problems with the new item. Is that right? What can I do so I don’t end up losing out?Thanks and best regardsFranco

Ask for the return at the seller’s expense and the refund. Then, with the money you get back, you can buy the equivalent product (if you really want to do that). If you accept the replacement and then the new item doesn't work either, you won't have any more return options. A refund is better, so that with a new purchase the eBay customer warranty starts over.

have the replacement item shipped and make sure that all communications are carried out via eBay messaging (including the tracking number), both for your protection and for the seller's protection.

Do not close the refund case until the issue has been resolved, and reassure the seller that you will wait until the last available day to use the case, that is, no later than 20 days from the opening of the return, remembering not to let it expire!
