I received an offer for an item I put up for sale, but on the buyer's profile photo there is a message saying that he needs more photos to send to a friend via gmail or telegram and that once they are sent he will pay me double the shipping costs. I turned down the offer because it seemed rather strange to me

has a similar situation ever happened to you?

There have been thousands of them for years; you can see on Google under the heading "Nigerian Scam".

Never communicate with another user outside eBay messaging; phone numbers or email are important to them for sending fake eBay messages and false payment receipts.
