Refund processed but my balance is negative
Good morning, a few days ago someone bought one of my items and I refunded her instantly
The refund shows as completed, but I have a negative available balance and I don't understand why
It was a payment of about €60, I refunded it right away and the account became -€53 (the roughly €7 are the fee that I see as credited, but where is it?)
Then two orders of about €20 were completed, money that can therefore be withdrawn, but they go to offset that negative balance so now I have like -€33
I don't understand anything, it's as if I were paying for that refund out of my own pocket even though it shows as completed and refunded on December 19

OP2 years agoGuys, I don’t have a funds hold; I had the 15-day suspension as a new seller. In fact, recently I got money from sales right after shipping and delivery
This refund was simply marked on my eBay balance, which went negative after the refund; let’s say it became like a debt to eBay (-60€), but I didn’t understand why, since it would have been enough to just return the payment directly to the customer/reverse the transaction, basically, and not draw from my balance (virtual, since eBay put me at -60€)
I mean, I cancel a sale with payment made by the customer, and if I refund, eBay takes from my balance instead of instantly giving the money back to the customer, the customer’s money that I obviously never had since I canceled it? The procedure is weird
Now, even though the refund shows as complete (officially, it says complete but I’m still negative)
Should that negative balance go back to positive now or not? Or did eBay refund it out of its own pocket and now they’ll credit me the buyer’s money?
I’m not understanding anything, I only know that money from 2 sales that was available for withdrawal went to reduce that negative balance
I also contacted support and they say everything is normal and the refund has been done, but if it has been done and you returned the money to the customer, why am I paying for it too?

Mentore2 years agoBasically the money is in your ebay account, but not available (given your new seller status, it will be available 15 days after payment) and therefore the refund was made by putting the account into negative balance.
When the 15 days expire, they will credit you the payment and the fees (if you voluntarily and promptly made the refund, you will only lose 35 cents).

but is it normal to pay reimbursements out of pocket if you don't have funds available if you're considered a new seller or not very active... when they become available, they'll be paid into your account...
Anyway, it's all written in eBay's rules...

OP2 years agoI didn’t pay anything out of my own pocket, I just canceled the sale, that is, the money from the customer that I never even saw was supposed to just be returned to them, and apparently the refund was completed

Mentore2 years agoCheck carefully because if you didn’t have available funds, you paid the refund out of your own pocket.
As I already wrote to you, the blocked funds are due to the fact that you are a rather inactive seller... or there is a check on your sale, but to find out more you need to ask support:
