Partial refund despite returning the item
Summary: chrilesina0 started a discussion about a partial refund received after returning an item. sika700 participated but did not offer any further details about the issue.
Hello,
I bought a battery. After delivery I saw that it doesn’t work and that it also had scratches and didn’t look new at all (even though the listing said it was a new item).
I contacted the seller, who immediately предложed that I could return it so he could check it. The seller sent a courier to collect the package.
Since even after a week after I returned the item I hadn’t heard anything from the seller, I contacted him again asking him to confirm receipt of the item and saying that if he didn’t let me know anything I would be forced to contact eBay support.
Only after that did the seller reply, explaining that they are doing checks and that it takes time to do them, that this is not how you treat “honest” people.
In a second message he then changes tone and says that he will be contacting eBay because I would have sent back a different item.
After that I started the eBay return process. I explained what happened, attaching photos of the product in the packaging, of the product just taken out of the packaging, of the voltage test I did, which showed that the battery was not charged, and of the return package with the battery inside.
I received a proposal for a partial refund (half of the price paid). In the message the seller writes that the returned product is not the one he shipped because his have a different appearance.
Now I don’t know what to do. Do I accept the partial refund offer and give him half the price I paid even though he got the product back, or do I not accept it.
What I didn’t understand is this: if I don’t accept the partial refund offer, do I risk getting nothing at all? Even though I returned the product to the seller?
What do you recommend I do?

Mentore1 year agoYou made the big mistake of not opening the return request first... not after...
These are borderline situations and it's hard to predict how eBay will handle it.
The choice is yours, whether to accept the partial refund or try to get eBay involved, explaining, with tracking in hand, that it has already been shipped.
I’d consult support...
Kind regards.
