Scammed by a new member
But is it really possible for a new member to beat someone who’s been here since 2005? Absolutely yes. My case is something absurd. This guy, Danish, buys a vintage item from me (stuff that’s over 40 years old, but it had the box and was in impeccable condition) that I had tested and that worked. It arrives and he opens a return request for malfunction, provides no proof, barely replies. Ebay.com lets him win, doesn’t give me the chance to create a label, and keeps suggesting that I contact the user who, having already pocketed the refund and the item, has disappeared. I appeal through every channel, they say they’re opening a report, but I’m completely ignored on all fronts. But is it really possible that this site behaves like this against sellers?

Mentore3 years agoIn these cases, the mistake is always to wait for eBay's decision. When there are two opposing versions, in the absence of proof, the decision cannot be made based on seniority and the buyer is favored. So you need to try to minimize the damage, proposing a refund after the return at the seller's expense.
You should have arranged for pickup; it would have been enough to buy a prepaid shipment directly from any international carrier (DHL, UPS,.....), the excuse that it wasn't possible to buy it through Packlink doesn't hold up.
Now you can only take legal action, but I doubt it would be easy to file a complaint for embezzlement against a resident in Denmark.

OP3 years agoI didn't want to do anything through Packlink, and when the buyer won the return, they didn't give me any way to create any label; in fact eBay kept telling me that I had to contact the buyer myself to make arrangements... but of course they disappeared.

Mentore3 years agoPacklink is eBay Italy's shipping manager; obviously it doesn't operate in Denmark.
eBay tells you to make arrangements with the buyer to advance the return shipping money to them, but I wouldn't trust that too much.... that's why I was telling you that it would have been enough to go to DHL.com and buy a prepaid return label there.
I think it's too late now.

Mentore3 years agoSimply because it gave you the chance to do it BEFORE the buyer "won" the return... the problem is that people always think, wrongly, that by doing nothing they'll be in the right... but with ebay that's not how it works!
Kind regards.

OP3 years agobut I wasn’t just sitting on my hands, hey! I was in contact with eBay the whole time, they were the ones telling me "wait for our intervention" or "you contact the buyer" but if that person wasn’t replying anymore, what could I do? Besides, the last time I wrote to them they said "don’t sell abroad anymore if you want to avoid these situations" and "we’re aware of these situations" — basically, two things, one worse than the other.

OP3 years agoPS: eBay, in the several times I contacted them, advised me not to sell abroad if I don’t want to go through this stuff, saying they’re aware of the situation (and do nothing). As if, because of some scammer, I should stop dealing even with honest buyers. That same week, in fact, I shipped to another Dane and everything went smoothly. What a crappy site, by now buyers have a free pass to scam!
