Customs clearance
I bought an item from the UK
in the description nothing was specified regarding customs clearance.
now I have received an email asking me for VAT and customs clearance for a total of €172.
what does that mean?
I bought on eBay.it so I assume that everything is already included with taxes and that the seller registered on eBay.it is the one who pays the taxes.

Mentore2 years agoIn listings where shipping via the eBay international program is предусмотрed, customs fees are paid in advance (but they are always paid by the buyer), and this is specified:
Import charges:
Estimated amount £ xx.xx Confirmed at checkout
Payments:
International shipping charges and import charges are paid to Pitney Bowes Inc.
If this indication is not there, customs fees are paid to the courier upon delivery.

Mentore2 years agoYou have completely not understood how distance sales work.
Even if you view listings posted on ebay.it, you must always check where the goods are and the seller's registered office.
Unless otherwise indicated, the sale is deemed to take place at the seller's registered office. Then the buyer will be solely responsible for import into the EU. You are the one who needs to know these things before buying.

If you refuse to pay, the item will be sent back and it is not certain that you will be refunded.
