Are these biblical-length delays normal for a refund?
A seller canceled a sale after I sent payment via PayPal (linked to my checking account).
He issued the refund (€244!) and then put the item back up for sale at a higher price...
I received the email from eBay saying it would take 3/5 business days to receive the refund.
Almost two weeks have gone by and I still haven't gotten my money back...
How long do they take??
Is all this normal??

OP3 years agoActually, I contacted eBay support several times, explaining everything to them, and they confirmed the 3-5 working day timeframe. Let’s just say they don’t even know themselves...
That said, just as when I make the payment I send you the money right away, money that travels the same route in the case of a refund, it would be appropriate to receive it just as quickly.

Mentore3 years agoIt doesn't really work like that... if you paid by direct debit through Paypal, Paypal simply advanced your amount... an SDD isn't instant, so if you look at the debit date on your account you'll notice that it wasn't made on the same day, even if the value date is the same.
So if you then consider the reverse, you simply have to take bank processing times into account... in this case you should have contacted Paypal support, not ebay... the delay was created by them, ebay support can't know Paypal's timing, since as already said, they can't know how you paid (whether by card or direct debit)!
It seems clear and easy to understand to me.
Kind regards.

OP3 years agoRefunded by the seller on 29/7, as per the emails from both eBay and PayPal, I received the credit on 9/8:
12 days total, of which 8 working days, instead of the 3-5 days indicated in the refund emails.

Mentore3 years agoYes, but apart from the two days from eBay, the rest depends only on the timing of your bank account and PayPal.
There are bank accounts that make incoming SEPA transfers available at 9:00 in the morning if they were sent by 17:00 on the previous working day, and others that take 3 days (always working days).

OP3 years agoLook, I send and receive payments through my checking account the day after issuance, at the latest the day after that.
They told me it may be due to the double transfer: from eBay to PayPal and from there to my checking account...
If they really can’t manage to refund sooner, it would be enough to indicate 8 days instead of 3-5 days. Avoiding useless messages, calls, requests in the community...

Mentore3 years agoThe emails you receive are prepackaged, ebay can’t know in advance which payment method you used... it received the payment through Paypal, but if you did it through direct debit, Paypal knows... not ebay!
Anyway, everything is written in ebay’s rules:
https://www.ebay.it/help/buying/returns-items-not-received-refunds-buyers/restituisci-un-oggetto-cambio-di-un-rimborso?id=4041&st=3&pos=1&query=Restituisci%20un%20oggetto%20in%20cambio%20di%20un%20rimborso&intent=reso&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1134#:~:text=I%20fondi%20sono%20in%20genere%20disponibili%20entro%203%2D5%20giorni%20lavorativi.%20Se%20il%20rimborso%20viene%20accreditato%20su%20una%20carta%20di%20credito%2C%20a%20seconda%20dell%27ente%20emittente%2C%20potrebbero%20essere%20necessari%2030%20giorni%20prima%20che%20lo%20stesso%20sia%20visibile%20sul%20tuo%20estratto%20conto.
Then imagine the timing of the bank transfer...
Kind regards.

OP3 years agoI had done it, thanks, I was told that first eBay issues the refund to PayPal, then PayPal to the original source of the balance.
Let's wait...

Mentore3 years agoEbay issues the refund within two business days of the email, so it already issued the refund to PayPal some time ago. The problem is with PayPal, which has to transfer the money to your checking account; contact them and ask the reason for the delay

OP3 years agoExactly, it’s PayPal that has to do it, but the refund starts from eBay/sales transaction.
In the PP account the refund shows up (entry only, without money) with a note that it will be refunded, I repeat, to the original payment method, bank account details.
Email from 29/7...
Thanks

Mentore3 years agoSo if the refund from eBay shows up, you need to ask Paypal for the reason for the delay in crediting your account.
Best regards.

Mentore3 years agoHello,
are you looking for the refund in the right place?
If you used your Paypal account by taking the money from your checking account, you will probably find the funds in your Paypal account... not in your checking account!
Try checking...
Best regards.

OP3 years agoThe money goes back to the original payment method, as indicated among other things by the refund emails. They have to send the credit to my checking account. But when?
When I make a bank transfer, within 2 days the money is available.

Mentore3 years agoEbay will never issue you a bank transfer!
Since you paid with Paypal, you need to check your Paypal account; at most, it’s Paypal that will have to make the bank transfer for you... not ebay!
So check your Paypal account!
Kind regards.
