suspected scam attempt as a seller
good morning,
For the past two or three years I’ve had some antique prints (chromolithographs) on ebay and have occasionally sold a few.
In mid-April a user from China contacted me and asked for information about the prints and the shipping costs to China.
After checking the shipping, I told him the cost; he added that he wanted quite a few prints (about fifty) and asked me for a small discount.
I offered him a discount and asked him to send me a list of the prints he had chosen; the price is 10 euros each, so even with the discount the final amount is interesting.
I wrote to him that I would be out of town for a week and that upon my return I would provide him with an ebay link where I would have grouped the prints together.
In the meantime I’ve received purchase offers for dozens of prints from at least a couple of other users, as it happens always from China.
When I got back, the first user wrote to me asking if we can go ahead, but I have serious doubts about this whole thing ...
Prints that don’t get much interest suddenly become highly sought after by 3-4 users all from the same country?
Could this be an attempted scam? What kind? How can I protect myself, in your opinion?

Mentore3 years agoIt’s almost impossible to give you reassurance; the only advice is to accept payments only through eBay and to ship (after making sure the payment has gone through on eBay) with an international courier (like UPS or DHL).
For it to be a scam, the “stolen” product would also have to be easy to resell (that’s why they usually focus on phones, watches, consoles, and branded tablets).
