Return shipping costs, order canceled but shipped anyway
I placed an order for an item, but as soon as I realized I had made a mistake, after paying for it I contacted the seller asking to cancel the order before shipment. The seller replied that there was no problem and asked me to give him the order number, which I did immediately. A few days later, not seeing the order canceled on my eBay profile, I contacted the seller again, who replied (with an automatic message) that the order had not yet been shipped because of a national holiday that had blocked all couriers. I replied that the order was to be canceled and not shipped, but I did not receive a response. After another three days I received confirmation that the item had been shipped and I contacted the seller again, who replied that there had been a mistake and that after the item arrived I could return it without any problems. After the item arrived I started the return process but I found myself with about 40 euros in shipping costs to pay out of my own pocket. I contact the seller again looking for a solution but to this day, after 10 days, he has not replied. What should I do? I don’t think it’s fair to make me pay shipping because of their mistake.

Mentore3 years agoBut the first mistake was yours... and the seller had no obligation to accept your cancellation... because buyers cannot cancel orders!
So, when it comes to equal mistakes, everyone should take responsibility for their own; if you want to get a refund, you have to withdraw from the purchase and therefore ship at your own expense.
That's how it works...
Kind regards.

Mentore3 years agoUnfortunately it’s a problem you have to sort out personally with the seller.
On eBay there is no option for the buyer to cancel an order that has been placed. The buyer can only ask the seller to do it, and the seller can accept or not. If the seller did not cancel the order, even if they said they would, eBay cannot consider them in breach.
Now the item has arrived and you can exercise your right to change your mind, but you have to return it at your own expense. You can only hope for the seller’s honesty, that by admitting their mistake they send you a return label or also refund your return shipping costs.
