Rates for purchases from the United States
I intended to buy an item on ebay from the United States, the price was $60 + shipping, once I opened the page it shows me $73.20 plus shipping, can someone tell me why? Taxes? If they’re taxes, why do I have to pay them and not the seller, I should mention that the seller in question is a private individual.

Mentore3 years agoIf you buy something from outside the EU, you have to pay VAT.
60 + 22% = 60 + 13.20 = 73.20
It seems like an obvious calculation to me, just as obvious is the fact that VAT (by law) has to be paid by the buyer. Ebay operates as a tax withholding agent and collects your tax on behalf of the Italian state.
Keep in mind that when it arrives in Italy, you'll then have to pay customs fees to the carrier. It depends on the carrier, but it ranges from 5 to 20 euros.
