Traceability and disputes
Summary: The discussion centers around the topic of "Tracciabilità e controversie." giada.altobelli, marioelegio, and sika700 are the main participants, engaging in a series of exchanges. With some Customers we noticed that eBay, after checking the messages between Customers and sellers, opens disputes to protect the former: and that’s fine with me.
What I don’t accept is that, by the end of the process, eBay does not check the Customers’ latest communications, in which they state that they have received the order and are satisfied with it.
I can tell you, from direct experience, that the button to close the dispute is very hard to find.
I myself found myself having to close one (order 13-12151-50282): the next day the Seller wrote to me that they were still urging her to refund me.
I sold a book for half its price, €11.90 shipping included.
At the Post Office they charged me a fee of almost €4.00.
All my books arrive late because the tracking eBay keeps preaching about costs as much as the books themselves, whose prices I can’t raise because they would end up being as high as new books.
The customer, having received the book and being satisfied with it, told me so in a message last night, but they weren’t able to close the dispute and eBay makes me lose about €15.00 on almost €6.00 earned?
Why are they so good at snooping in outgoing messages and not in return ones?
This is APPROXIMATION and SLIPSHODDINESS.
Do they get anything out of making “a good impression” with the Customer?
I tend to think so; by harassing the seller, something probably gets achieved: maybe in terms of visibility and a consequent increase in sales.
For a year now I’ve been preaching: eBay is full of windows for communicating one’s (dis)satisfaction, but nobody reads them.
For a year now I’ve been talking with eBay operators about the impossibility of using tracked shipping: the company offers a fake deal, and it’s quicker to go to Poste. In fact, there isn’t even the affordable “Piego di libri” option. And they answer me like obtuse automatons:
“I would, in any case, Madam, recommend that you use tracked shipping.”
And every time I end up chasing the Customer by email with my IBAN in hand like a beggar.
At this point I’m personally moving to Vinted: I’ll earn less, but at least I won’t have to struggle like this.”

Mentore1 year agoThe dispute has to be opened by the buyer; it doesn’t open by itself. It can happen that a very distracted user selects the “item not received” report thinking they’re sending a message to the seller, but opening the report does not result in a refund (it can only cause a delay in the payment being credited). If the user isn’t able to close the procedure, just wait a few days and it closes by itself due to inactivity (with no further consequences).
If someone got a refund from you for an untracked purchase, they did it knowingly, by opening the dispute and then explicitly asking eBay to intervene.
From this point of view, the rules on Vinted are the same.

OP1 year agoAnd it’s not even the first time a Client has written me something like this: the same message from someone else goes back more than a year, and I can’t retrieve it, otherwise I would have posted that one too.

OP1 year agoHere it is: I found the other email I was referring to. Take care

Mentore1 year agoYou shipped with piego di libri, untracked.
If a claim is opened for non-delivery, the refund is automatic, since you can't prove the shipment.
Now the buyer is just trying to reach an agreement with you to pay back for the item... what's the problem??
Maybe it's time to stop using a shipping method that doesn't protect you at all... using tracked shipping is entirely up to you... what does eBay have to do with it??
giada.altobelli
OP1 year agoCome on: if we want to keep pretending we didn’t see that!
Would you pay €10.00 for tracking on a book you’re selling for €10.00? Do you think you can sell a used book for the same price as a new one?
In your opinion, is 2+2 equal to 4?
What does eBay have to do with it?
That it keeps insisting that you pay for tracking that, as a non-professional seller, you can’t afford: why doesn’t it make deals with couriers instead of advertising preprinted labels with the same outrageous price as Poste Italiane?
Or read all the messages, both the ones where the Customer complains and the others, the final ones in which they state their satisfaction, without needlessly harassing the seller.
Sure: unless the delay causes damage. But that wasn’t the case, as shown by the Customer’s last email.

Mentore1 year agoWho keeps insisting that you pay for tracking that, as a non-professional seller, you can’t afford: why doesn’t it set up agreements with couriers instead of advertising pre-filled labels at the same exorbitant price as Poste Italiane?
A non-professional seller, by definition, doesn’t make a living from what they sell, so they have to make a choice: shipping without tracking is a risk even if it’s a saving (apparently), otherwise use Pack link or registered book mail, sell less but you have more guarantees.

OP1 year agoSweetie! I certainly don’t have the urge to lift my behind and climb up to the historic center where the Post Office is located just to give away books as if I were the Befana (though from my looks it’s not far off).
And if you still haven’t got it, I know the rates better than you do: I was born to it.
You’re beating around the bush.
P.S.: I certainly don’t make a living from these sales, but if you give me your home address, I’ll come eat at your place, with both my children.

Mentore1 year agoAnyway, the agreement with Packlink does exist, and in it there is the standard parcel to be sent to the post office, tracked up to 2kg for 4.36 euros.

OP1 year agoThanks a lot. But look at that: I didn’t know that table!
What a brilliant idea!
giada.altobelli
OP1 year agoAnyway, given the dispute expiration date: before proceeding with the forced refund, it would have been enough to check whether there were any final, resolving messages.
I find this negligence very sloppy.

Mentore1 year agoBut if you keep wearing blinders, you'll keep hurting yourself...
It's pointless to debunk ideas and strange ideologies when they are too deeply rooted.
Are you convinced it's eBay's fault?
For me, it's your fault.... then think whatever you want...
