Scammed by a user and no protection from eBay
hi, I’m desperate..
I sold an item abroad because the buyer contacted me and asked if I could ship it to Tanzania.. I checked that it was NOT an account opened the day before, the feedback, and I decided to accept..
I used eBay shipping to avoid problems, so if anything happened it would all stay “in-house”
on December 3 he bought the item
on December 4 (according to tracking) it shows in the courier network so it was shipped..
let’s not forget that 8/9/10 was a holiday and many people were taking a long weekend..
and the tracking stops for customs clearance
on December 11 the buyer opened a dispute for item not received in Tanzania (from Varese)
I contacted eBay and twice they reassured me that no one would take my money if the tracking updated.
and that’s what happened.. on the 14th it was cleared by customs and on the 15th it had already arrived at its destination and was ready for pickup..
dispute closed in my favor on the 15th ..
on the 16th the buyer requested an appeal and eBay.com decided that he was right at least until he had picked up the package. and in no time at all I saw the item funds taken and the transaction closed in his favor..
I called to file the appeal.. and since the tracking was stuck at the post office they told me that very likely it was coming back.. (I lost a whole morning between the post office, eBay and Packlink) so I told myself to accept it and wait for the item to come back and I opened the claim with Packlink
until on the 28th this guy nice and easy decides to pick it up with signature..
Packlink washes its hands of it saying everything is in order because the package was collected and from there the mess with eBay began.
eBay.it forwards the appeals to eBay.com ... eBay.com DOES NOT RESPOND and it’s been 2 weeks that I’ve been waiting ..
every 2/3 days I open the appeal since even eBay.it thinks it’s strange that they’re not replying.. I’ve called about twenty times now and here we get to support that sometimes sides with the buyer because I chose to use a poor service and therefore it arrived late (not true) item arrived on time he picked it up late.. .. (by the way, the same “poor” service proposed by eBay that anyway worked fine) and support tells me absolutely this isn’t normal.. but in the end the only thing that can be done is an appeal to eBay America... the very same eBay America that stopped responding.
I know I don’t count for anything .. I have 500 feedback.. but at this point if eBay prefers to protect a scam buyer with few feedback who no longer replied and who doesn’t answer the phone.. rather than protect me, who pays the fees and in 12 years has never caused a problem and the few I did cause I solved at my own expense without opening disputes with 100% positive feedback, just say it...
I deleted all my listings because until this is resolved I want to avoid fattening them up.. even if just a little .. and very likely if the item or the money doesn’t come back to me I’ll delete my account for good
if anyone has any good idea please contact me .. everything I said can be proven through e-mail.. tracking number.. etc..

Mentore2 years agoA good idea would have been not to ship to Africa... there are already serious difficulties with domestic deliveries, but how can you think of "getting by" with international shipping, especially if you then run into the "unusually dishonest" user?
Unfortunately, it is a fact of life, online sales hide serious pitfalls; if you are not aware of what you may be up against, it is better... to avoid getting hurt... not to try.
In any case, you can also read about it here on the forum, similar experiences certainly did not have a positive outcome for the seller.
Best regards.

OP2 years agoso let’s do what eBay does, which is offer a service and then blame the person who chooses it because the service is lousy... I’ve shipped collectibles and paintings everywhere from America to Japan, so I don’t exactly mess around with anything.. I’ve been doing it for 10 years and not just on eBay... And precisely because I’ve already been through this with small local skirmishes, I was prudent and did everything by the book..
anyway, let’s say this guy is a scammer and I was wrong to choose him as the buyer..( which is already ridiculous) .. my mistake .. but here eBay is siding with him after what he did ...and it’s a fact that he isn’t responding, that he scammed me, something I couldn’t have known... I may have been wrong out of ignorance ..but eBay is protecting a user who is aware of what he did

Mentore2 years agoSo, if you've already been through it, you know perfectly well how it works... and since it seems I've understood that you've been doing it for a long time and it's not clear whether it's for "work", I'd say it's the famous "business risk"... or the risk of selling online...
It's annoying, but there's nothing you can do about it, other than trying, as much as possible, to avoid questionable circumstances.
Good evening.

OP2 years agoeBay will lose a user who pays the fees.
who will buy on eBay .. in return
it will gain negative publicity because I’ll tell anyone who asks me that it’s not reliable..
and so on..
I’m not being presumptuous. I’m nobody.. this is the "beauty" of living in a world of multinationals and globalization...
but one less grain of sand.. you’ll see that when they see people starting to leave, it won’t be enough to lower the fees ...as they did "recently" to encourage users to sell.. greetings and "congratulations" on your devotion and understanding toward the multinational is pretty disgusting...never again.

Mentore2 years agoWe’ll all come to terms with it... but in the meantime I see you’re still very active on eBay... inconsistency?
Have a good day.
