A user wants to return an item they believe is fake
Summary: frappe994 reports that a user wants to return an item they suspect is fake. sika700 responds, but does not provide any further details or solutions.
I sold a 4TB SSD that I had regularly bought on Amazon and used for a year. The buyer would have taken the SSD apart (potentially voiding the warranty), sent photos of the inside and believes it is not a 4TB drive, but a 128 or 256GB one because there are only 4 NAND chips, even though I found exact matches online and the inside matches the 4TB model. While I understand the skepticism due to the various fakes on eBay (especially microSDs), I tried to have the SSD tested via software but got no response. eBay is telling me to accept the return and pay the return shipping, or offer a partial refund. In any case, for me it would be a loss, even if the item were to come back reassembled and undamaged I lose the cost of two shipments plus potentially the warranty!
Just to give you an idea, I’m attaching one of the images I received from the buyer, which perfectly matches the 4TB model as you can see on a site that catalogs all the models:
https://www.techpowerup.com/ssd-specs/crucial-mx500-4-tb.d951
it’s also visible that the NAND modules are NY135, that is 1TB, and there are two on each side. I don’t know what else to do except accept the loss; otherwise I don’t know what eBay will do after January 9th, whether it will side with me or the customer.

Mentore1 year agoHello,
if you don’t want to lose money and the item, you have no choice... that is, to take the hit...
So, to minimize the damage, it’s best to accept the return and arrange for it to be sent back at your expense.
Kind regards.
