Controversy over missing object
Summary: domusnovesell shared an experience where a buyer opened a dispute on eBay claiming that the package they received was empty. They’re asking for advice on how this situation might affect the seller’s status and whether it’s possible to get a full refund based solely on the buyer’s statement. caffemillionaire suggests asking the buyer to file a report with the local authorities and for the seller to do the same to protect themselves, making names and transaction details public to involve couriers and buyers, in order to deter any scammers.
Hello everyone, I’d like to understand how seller protection works in a case like this.
A buyer received a package and opened a dispute claiming that the package had arrived empty and that the item purchased wasn’t inside. Following the report, the dispute was then taken over directly by eBay.
My question is: is it enough for a buyer to claim that the package arrived empty to get a full refund and, at the same time, damage the seller’s Status?
Thanks to anyone who has had direct experience with similar cases and can share how the dispute ended.

·2 weeks agoYou can try to object, file reports, etc..., but in no way will you be able to prove who took the contents of the package.
It could have been the seller who shipped the empty package, it could have been the courier who intercepted it, or it could have been the buyer who made a false claim. All three possibilities are plausible and carry the same weight.
This is one of the risks inherent in all distance sales, on any platform, and the advice is always the same: try to minimize the damage by refunding quickly and voluntarily.
The subsequent report can only have an effect if you are dealing with someone who already has several for the same reason.

·2 weeks agoHi, if you feel you are in the right, ask the customer to file a report about what happened with the local authorities in their country. If that doesn't happen, to prevent these things from happening again, you can make a claim to your carrier for damages. Another important point not to overlook in order to put an end to these situations is to file a report with the authorities as the seller, since if you refund, it means you were the one who was robbed or scammed. By leaving the names and all the addresses of the transaction, couriers and buyers will be called to account by the relevant authorities. That way maybe one day this will end and honest people will keep staying, while the smart ones won't try it anymore. Often buyers, when they hear that you are going to report it, if they are smart they back down; if it's not true, they won't, but if it is true, they will back you up and you will see it through.
