Reimbursement for expenses for a second shipment due to an eBay error
Summary: contactme1964 shared their experience of an issue with a delivery ordered from eBay, intending for it to arrive via a specific courier but encountering an unexpected change by eBay, causing it to be delivered to a pickup point instead. This led to the item being returned to the seller, who then requested additional payment for a second shipment. contactme1964 agreed but is seeking advice on whether they can ask eBay for a refund due to the shipping error attributed to them. daxsisko suggested that it might be a misunderstanding, asserting that typically the seller chooses the courier. contactme1964 clarified they were repeating the seller's explanation and expressed concern about being misled.
Good evening,
on 29/7 I bought an item whose delivery was scheduled for 7/8.
During checkout I chose Bartolini as the courier with delivery to my home and paid with a rechargeable MasterCard debit card.
I don’t know for what reason, but Ebay generated the shipping label incorrectly, with Poste Italiane as the courier and delivery to a pickup point.
Obviously the seller, unaware of the error, printed it and shipped the item.
When the item arrived at the Poste pickup point on 7/8, the person in charge, checking that on his terminal there was no trace of that shipment arriving from him, refused to accept the parcel, assuming it was a mistake.
Obviously the parcel was returned to the sender and I promptly opened a "Item Not Received dispute" also because the item was covered by the "eBay Customer Guarantee".
When the item was returned to the seller I asked for it to be sent to me again because I needed it and the seller asked me for an amount to cover the second shipping payment.
Understanding that the problem was not caused by him, I accepted and paid via PayPal.
Now I’m asking you:
since the mix-up was caused by an eBay error, why should I pay for the second shipping?
can I ask eBay for a refund?
how can I contact eBay since I can’t find an email address or a chat? The dispute is still open but on the dedicated page I can’t find any button that lets me get in touch with them, only with the seller, who has no responsibility whatsoever; on the contrary, he was very helpful even though he was on vacation abroad.
Can someone help me?
Thanks
\giuseppe

·3 weeks ago · Editedan impossible hypothesis, since it’s the seller who chooses the courier (and not Ebay..... which, among other things, doesn’t ship, since Ebay’s shipping manager is Packlink, which the seller may or may not use.....) ;
it’s also impossible for a package sent with Poste to arrive at the pickup point (if the label is from another courier or is incorrect, it won’t even get sent....... )
so get better informed............

OP2 weeks agoHello and thanks for the information, but this isn't about me getting better informed because I simply reported what the seller explained to me; I have no way of really understanding how things went. It means I was taken for a ride by the seller.

·2 weeks ago · Editedin this case it would be appropriate to clarify better...... since nowhere did you indicate that what you wrote in the first post is what the seller explained to you.......
anyway, to make the point clearer:
it is the seller who ships and chooses the courier, so, except in very special cases, you always have to refer to the seller in case of problems with the courier and, if possible, find a solution that satisfies both
