I thought that this practice had fallen out of use when eBay decided to calculate commissions on the total paid instead of the item price (this, of course, not counting a few extra euros on top of what was due, which is basically what everyone does).
Well, today I got proof that (as long as eBay doesn’t handle shipping costs itself) there are people who make quite a profit off it.
French seller. Action figure for sale at €59 + €32(!!!) shipping.
I ask the seller whether, being French, he also uses Vinted to save on shipping.
He answers yes and gives me the profile where he would have listed the item.
Which I then discover is at €79 (shipping from France on Vinted is €4)
I ask him whether there’s a mistake in the price, which I find incongruous since on that platform the profit is net, and he replies that he can do €65 for me, candidly explaining that he keeps the eBay price low because he also makes money on shipping.
What can you say to him except ... adieu!

·1 year agoBasically, you opened this post to let us know that you don’t agree with the total purchase price of an item plus shipping costs.
Ebay certainly limits excessive shipping on certain categories of items for domestic shipping, but for international shipping the situation would not be manageable with imposed limits.
What can I say, sorry, but international shipping is full of unforeseen issues and risks, so if you managed to find the same item on vinted, buy it there and be happy.

OP1 year agobasically I think it’s worth reading and understanding the content before commenting... . Not because I’m not interested in your opinion, quite the opposite. But because it’s blatantly wrong as an interpretation ("...if you managed to find the same item...").
