Now that Posta1 has been discontinued, as far as you know, can I still use them for Posta4 shipments?

·4 months agoSent on 13/5 items to Switzerland for E. 71,90 with International Postamail (untraceable) in a bright yellow, very conspicuous package, because Poste Italiane eliminated International Priority, which was traceable up to the border. The recipient, a highly regarded Swiss professional, a buyer with 100% positive feedback, is now telling me, after more than 20 days, that nothing has arrived. I asked her to wait a few more days, but then I will have to refund her and, what’s worse, I don’t know what feedback she’ll leave me. In the meantime, I sent a message to Minister Urso and Meloni pointing out that, since Poste Italiane, even though they have the job of providing a public service, behave only like a private company that prioritizes its profits even at the expense of the public, it has become urgent for the government to set up a new public postal company that is not for profit, as our post office used to be once. WRITE TO URSO AND MELONI AS WELL ABOUT THIS, IF YOU DO SO SOONER OR LATER THEY WILL HAVE TO REALIZE THE PROBLEM.

·4 months agoInternational priority mail had two codes, one being the stub code that was left to the sender (a code that was never useful for anything because it was not standardized abroad and in fact delivery confirmations were never shown).
Then international priority mail had a code COMPLIANT with the standards, like a registered RR code, which was applied to the shipment but was not given to the sender even on request.
It was a code for internal use and that code was used for the exchange of information with foreign postal services.
The post office could have access to more information, especially when the envelope / letter / package left Italy, since it was a standardized code compatible with foreign postal services.
But obviously, since you hadn’t paid a fortune for an international registered item, there was no way the post office was going to give you information through that code.
With International Postamail I wouldn’t be able to tell you because I’ve never used it, but when you ship, try to pay close attention to whether they also apply an extra label with a registered-style code.
With international Postapriority you could see the code through the device used for acceptance / digital signing.

I'm speaking as just a user who used that service for years. I made dozens of shipments, mostly in Europe.
The international priority mail service was a hybrid service; it was neither an untracked cheap shipment nor a proper registered mail item.
But outside Italy there are standards to comply with.
The code provided by Poste Italiane on the slip that remained with the sender was not recognized as standard and in fact never worked to verify that the shipment had been delivered because abroad it CLEARLY was not recognized.
For foreign postal services (especially European ones) there is the UPU agreement.
The internal code used by Poste Italiane was not a working code if entered into the official tracking systems with the monitoring tools made available to users.
I know this because a couple of times I managed to take photos of the internal code that appeared on the touchscreen device used to accept or sign digitally.
If, hypothetically, I had shipped something illegal abroad to recipient xyz and the situation had taken an unexpected turn, the investigations would have revealed everything about the route of that envelope, the originating post office, the intermediate legs, whether and when the recipient received the envelope.
But aside from that, that type of internal code could serve other purposes such as
automatic sorting
service quality control
internal statistics
management of international flows
Many postal operators have offered “hidden” UPU S10 codes, and this is nothing entirely new because it has also been discussed on various discussion forums.
the international postal network needs to identify items;
international exchange centers read standardized barcodes;
some data is exchanged between operators without being exposed to the public.

·4 months agoAs expected, the complaints are already starting because of ordinary mail. A detailed notice isn’t enough, where I explain that I won’t be able to be as quick as I have been in recent years, and where I ask people to choose registered mail if it’s urgent. It’s not enough that I’ve lengthened the shipping times to get around Ebay’s delivery estimates (which in this case show the latest date as 19/05). Today the customer shows up and asks why he hasn’t received the item and needs it urgently.
Unfortunately, notices are useless. I’m offering a full refund of those few cents and that’s it, so I don’t get too worked up, since I’m at the end of my business. Then, if there’s a negative FB, we’ll see how it goes with Ebay.

·4 months agoHonestly, I don’t feel like shipping items worth 5 ~ 20 euros with posta 4 when there are commercial agreements that allow aliexpress or temu to use CRONO "PLUS" on a minimum shipment of 10 euros shipping included.
Or are we supposed to believe that Poste Italiane is "giving away" this premium service to aliexpress for reasons unknown to us??
No one knows how these services are subsidized, but Poste Italiane certainly doesn’t offer them for free, especially not for the 4 little items I bought for 11 euros with FREE shipping.
There are commercial exchange agreements between countries, and it’s not excluded that the government is putting this money in by drawing on our taxes.
Import costs have also been completely eliminated.
If that isn’t unfair competition.....
On eBay I simply replaced posta1 with the courier at 6 euros.
If I end up out of the market, TOO BAD, with posta1 already you sometimes risk the postman not scanning the code, but with posta4 every sale is basically a roll of the dice.
I really feel sorry for all those sellers who had invested time and resources in building their business largely based on selling small items.

·4 months agoI had to send it by Posta 4, I went to ship it on the day they discontinued Posta 1 and I couldn’t do otherwise. I’m counting on the customer’s goodwill and on the fact that Poste does its job and delivers the item they ordered these days (the item was shipped last Monday). Anyway, I have to compliment a company that is absolutely a piece of shit through and through, great job.

·4 months agoThere’s a confusion I can’t quite make sense of, I still see tons of sellers who on their listings put shipped with Posta 1, which in any case eBay should eliminate from the available services and not keep active. Others who use Posta 4, in 2026, and I’m talking about professional sellers. I’m addressing all sellers who are interested in this issue, I don’t know if you’re private sellers and sell an item every now and then, but I can assure you that for anyone who intends to use Posta 4, sooner or later you’ll get rid of it for various reasons, I used it on my other account and I didn’t even have the store yet, after a couple of weeks I dropped it out of sheer desperation, sometimes it would arrive even after more than a week, disputes left and right, and money lost. Imagine a professional seller like me, who before used to ship about 400-500 shipments a month with Posta 1 and in good months I easily went beyond those numbers.... Now imagine having to ship about 400-500 shipments with Posta 4, which costs only a few cents more than Posta 1, do you know what that means? It means throwing money away and causing complications for the account, both on service metrics (for those who know what they are) and on the chance of getting a nice negative feedback and not being able to do anything about it at all. Also remember that even before Posta 4 had biblical delivery times, at least 4 days, now the post office has extended the delivery times for this service, which will be delivered no earlier than the 5th working day... So you’re not obliged, there’s the courier, raise the prices as much as needed but at least offer a safe, trackable, and fast shipment ...

·4 months agoI asked the other day and still no one knows anything, in my opinion they won’t do anything at all as an alternative service, I hope I’m wrong.... I looked around quite a bit and as far as courier prices go eBay is the best, the same services with Poste or BRT contracts come out much more expensive.... GLS is even pricier, BRT and GLS offer volume discounts but to get really competitive prices you really have to make a lot of monthly shipments, here we’re talking about big companies with high volumes and I personally am a small business that falls under the flat-rate scheme.... I still manage to sell those products that maybe I used to sell for 7.90, 8.90, obviously right now demand has dropped a bit but it’s not dead.... Having items with different price points then lets me make my day by mixing sales.... But for those who mainly sell small low-value items, I see it as bleak if they don’t really use a Poste 4 and hope for a miracle from heaven

Unlike the other times when I show up on the forum with my comics account, this time I’m coming in with my business account to join in on the observation about the new postal arrangement.
On this account I sell items that average 2 Euro each.
On 2 Euro I used to add priority shipping at 2.90 (even though the price was 3 Euro). On the total of 4.90 I had to pay the commission of 1.08, including the 35 cents for payment and the VAT that I can’t recover because I’m under the flat-rate accounting scheme. I add 30 cents for the padded envelope.
Doing the math from the total of 4.90, I was left with 0.52, which barely covered the cost of the item. I’m leaving out the shop expense.
Where did I find even a minimal profit? By buying stamps at a discounted price (I checked them very carefully and they’re not fake!) and a little more on multiple sales.
I should point out that my goal wasn’t to make a living from it, but to pay INPS contributions until the end of 2026 to reach the minimum 20 years for retirement.
I have no negative FB because I’m always careful to solve every problem. Now I’ll be forced to switch to ordinary mail with all the related hassles, dumping what I have in stock to get through the few months left until I reach my goal.
I put a detailed notice at the top of every listing explaining that there will inevitably be delays (and inviting people to choose discounted registered mail) but I already know that won’t be enough.
I’m currently editing every single listing (weighing each item).
What can I say? I hope to make it to paying the last contributions left 🙂

·5 months agoI tried increasing the shipping cost by 2-3€ but on small items I’m basically not selling anything. The problem is that many sellers have switched to Posta4 (eBay should not allow untracked shipping options to be selected) and so they have a much lower price than mine. There are even several sellers who have left shipping with Posta1. I don’t know how you can sell under certain conditions. Many listings are sponsored but at crazy percentages that bring profits down close to 0.
Ebay should put a stop to things like the fact that many are registered as private sellers (they pay commissions less than half of mine) but in reality they are businesses with a VAT number.
When will the finance police start thoroughly combing through these fake private sellers who are selling thousands of items?

·5 months agoIt sells little to nothing in general because all these changes, as ChatGPT tells me, are a significant change to the algorithm ... I tried searching for some of my items and they’re still among the top in the search results and now the green free delivery and 2 days badge appears, however there will be a repositioning phase because the prices and shipping method have been changed, maybe the relevance it had before is lost and it takes time to go back to how it was before, at least I hope it goes back to how it was before ... As for the other sellers, private sellers who sell for less than professional sellers have always existed but I don’t think they’ll have an easy time with the new tax transparency rules and if you make sales sooner or later eBay asks you to register as a professional .... I’ve even seen professional sellers who said in the description that they didn’t have a VAT number and that they couldn’t issue an invoice, so just think about it .... I’ve also seen many who still write posta 1 and prices always the same as before but I think they still need to update or they’re not informed about it ? Possible . Switching to posta 4 is suicide and will have repercussions on the account with the metrics, I had thought about using it on small items too but too much risk .... We wait, it’s definitely a temporary algorithm issue and little by little it should go back to how it was before .... We’re all in the same boat, I deal exclusively with e-commerce, I don’t have a physical store open to the public, Amazon is a huge pain, even with the fees ... eBay has practically been my primary source for a good 8 years, steady daily sales, I’ve made many sales on this account alone ... If the situation doesn’t improve I’ll basically have to go to the accountant and shut down or try other platforms, but I was advised against Amazon for many reasons, there the competition, even from Amazon itself, eats you alive . Charge 5 euros for a sticker ... about 12 euros to send it by express courier???

·5 months agoThe only as painless a solution as possible on eBay is to use BRT at €5.32 with delivery in 48 hours, rather than shipping without tracking.
By the way, I noticed that besides the elimination of Posta 1, there is also a worsening of delivery times for all standard postal products (including parcels) to 5 working days, so instead of moving forward we’re going backwards...
From what I read here: "It is, in fact, a branch that loses around 100 million euros a year and that sees fewer and fewer letters being delivered and more and more parcels to be delivered to recipients"

·5 months agoEasy returns (at the counters I always find users who need to make returns) and online purchases have definitely increased, but the infrastructure has stayed the same.
I don't know if you've noticed that the tracking updates are also more GENERIC regarding package status, often there are no intermediate updates until the package arrives at the branch.
Delivery times with Poste Italiane have definitely lengthened and buyers are complaining to sellers.

·5 months agoYes, for example on Poste tracking now the transit location doesn’t even show up anymore, just a generic "Postal sorting center", so it’s also impossible to tell the route a package has taken in case of problems.

·5 months agoI'm struggling too; I had to raise the prices of all the products I shipped with Posta 1 Pro, and as a result I started shipping with BRT through eBay shipping. Right away I noticed a drop in sales. My Poste Italiane advisor told me they might put in place a service like Posta 1 but with VAT. Let's hope that's the case, at least we'll once again have the option to ship small lightweight items at a rate suited to their value.

·5 months agoIt's normal at the beginning because those products for which you raise the price lose the relevance they had, but everyone has to do it, you're not the only one, though you shouldn't overdo the increase. Right now I haven't raised prices and I'm using posta 1 until the end of the month, I'll start modifying the affected items in bulk, not the whole catalog obviously. I also received a call from the Poste Business consultant and she told me that if I was interested there's an alternative service that costs 3 euros + VAT, however shortly after she informed me that it's not suitable for shipping items and requires certifications, so probably yours is also referring to this service. I'll call her back in the next few days and we'll see what she says, let's keep each other updated if something comes up.... I tried getting quotes from Bartolini, GLS etc, I was already subscribed to Poste Delivery, for example Poste Delivery Business Express costs 5.70, price without VAT, on eBay 5.68 final price ... I confirm that on eBay shipping the same services you spend much less per package and I will use those.... Then unfortunately all sellers will raise prices, unless you use posta 4 and take the risk. Used in the past, never again, it only cost a few cents less than posta 1, very long delivery times and no outcome.... For a professional seller it's a nightmare

·5 months agoMe too, updated and prices and sales dropped quite a bit, increased by only 2-3 euros so not excessive. I shipped almost everything with posta 1, I am a professional company and I deal exclusively with e-commerce for 8 years (I also had a previous account), I sell daily and make various packages a day. I hope it's just a drop due to the update and an algorithm issue, practically sales have more than halved for 2 days, even today still very little. Instead of helping small businesses, in Italy they destroy them. I just hope everything will go back to the way it was and I won't have to close my business, otherwise if I find myself selling little or nothing and having to cover costs I would have to switch to posta 4 and risk everything.

·5 months agoIf sales have dropped, I think it's also due to the time of year; there are ups and downs, especially around the holidays. Don't give up, you'll see that even with the 2/3 euro increase you'll keep selling, in fact you'll probably sell more because with a small increase (which all sellers will be forced to make) you offer the customer a faster shipping service, you'll only have problems with requests for returns for defective/non-compliant items because in that case it will no longer be worth picking up the product but rather refunding and losing the usual €5.30 in shipping. As for Posta 4, trust me, it's madness: no delivery confirmation means more disputes for items not received and, as a result, your service metrics get worse, making delivery times to customers increase (and consequently you'll sell less).

·5 months agoIf Poste doesn't provide any alternative service (which is likely), the only solution for sellers will be to change product and raise prices.
I categorically refuse to use Posta 4 because out of the 2-3 times I used it, one shipment got lost; since then I said never again. As for Raccomandata, let's not even talk about it because at that price there are eBay Spedizioni couriers.
For a while now I've been using BRT Express at €5.32, maximum delivery times of 48 hours, still better than Poste Standard which costs €5.11 but has delivery times of at least 3 days (almost never respected): for a 20-cent difference it's worth halving the time with BRT, obviously I'm talking about my case. Also to "throw it back at them" for Poste having eliminated an economical and efficient service like Posta 1.
The fact is that it will be a hard hit for Italian e-commerce, especially for those who buy and will be incentivized to look toward other (Chinese) platforms when they see shipping is too expensive. If this is the scenario, every micro-envelope will now have to be entrusted to a courier, with delays and problems in case the recipient is absent (greater risk of disputes), whereas with Posta 1 the envelope could simply be left in the mailbox.
But then again, as usually happens in Italy, when something works well we don't do it anymore.

Vinted can be an alternative, even if in my opinion it doesn't have the same visibility as eBay and, by the rules, there are many categories of items that are prohibited.
An eventual integration of InPost with eBay as an economical courier could be interesting, even if at the moment it seems to me they only deliver to pickup points.

·5 months agoIn recent times we've seen really cheap integrated shipping services (I'm referring to vinted and subito).
Ebay shipping certainly has the best shipping rates compared to other brokers, but the problem is that the competition has eliminated the shipping broker.
Ebay should integrate shipping rates where it doesn't take a margin, to get closer to the competition, eliminating packlink and also adding inpost (which I personally find an excellent service).
Vinted or subito obviously don't replace ebay.
But if I have to sell a pair of shoelaces where on ebay I have to ask 6 euros for shipping, making the item uncompetitive, it’s worth trying other routes, such as vinted where shipping starts from 1.99 euros.
I hope that ebay italy, in addition to pokemon, decides to focus on making shipping services in line with what the competition offers.

·5 months agoI've been selling for 20 years and my most-used shipping method all this time has been Posta 4, which of course over the years has changed name and features but basically has stayed the same.
I should add that before selling on eBay I had, for just as many years, a lot of correspondence in Italy and abroad involving photos, various items like gadgets, music tapes, VHS, CDs. Sent and received, as exchanges, always with untracked shipping.
At the moment I also ship with book mail.
Of course I also always offer tracked shipments and leave the choice to the buyer.
Problems encountered? Few, very few. Every now and then a shipment doesn't arrive. Every now and then some buyer isn't patient, every now and then someone else tries to pull a fast one.
All in all, the negative consequences are so few that they hardly count.
Of course I'm talking about items worth less than 20/30 euros.
So for me Posta 4 is, and remains, an excellent shipping method. It must not and cannot be the only one (also for a matter of weight and size) but I have always preferred it to Posta 1, which had a higher cost for delivery confirmation.

·5 months agoI’ve tried almost all the shipping brokerage services, especially in the past when eBay shipping wasn’t the cheapest.
As a service for buying shipping and home pickup, they all work regularly until post-shipping issues come up.
Anyway, personally I find it illogical that to send an envelope under 100 grams you have to take up the SLOT of an express courier.

·6 months agoAll that's left is the courier and raising prices, ebay shipping has favorable offers, I have a business contract for both posta 1 pro and delivery business services and I spend less on ebay. Prices will have to be increased, poste doesn't offer adequate replacement services, posta 4 is useless and using it means factoring in receiving complaints and having to refund obligatorily. Raccomandata 1 and the other services have prices higher than a courier, so courier and raise the prices. It will be like that for everyone

For products under 10 euros, going from 3 euros for shipping to 5 or 6 euros is madness!

·6 months agoWith the increase in online purchases, problems with couriers have increased.
At certain times of the year (for example at Christmas), volumes are so high that they bring the system to a standstill.
If to ship a microSD with a small padded envelope that the postman can easily slip in among the letters you have to rely on a courier and overload that kind of service, I’d say we’re at the end of the road.
It will happen that many items will no longer be sold because shipping will cost more than the item.
Or these kinds of items will be sold on sites like Vinted that offer shipping for 1.99 ~ 2.99 euros.
I don't think people will switch en masse to registered mail.....
I have already removed delicate / expensive / trendy items from eBay and advertised them on another site for in-person exchange.
The next step will be to remove all small or low-value items from eBay to sell them on Vinted.
It would have been better to keep everything on one platform, but if you have no protection against scams you have to diversify, same thing if you are no longer competitive in terms of shipping for small / cheap items.

·6 months agoOn Vinted, second-hand items, but I was reading that there are scams and problems galore and the support is really awful, it is absolutely not comparable to eBay or Amazon. For professional sellers like me, besides having a personal website, eBay and Amazon remain the two giants to sell on and nowadays it is impossible not to be there, Vinted shouldn’t even be taken into consideration, for new items I don’t see better platforms than these.... With the discontinuation of Posta 1 there will of course be a price increase even for small, low-value items, and besides couriers I don’t see suitable solutions, unless you want to shoot yourself in the foot and use Posta 4 at your own risk, both because of refunds, complaints and possible negative feedback to be taken into account. I will use eBay shipping services, I also have a contract with Poste Business but it’s worth it here

·5 months agoPrices were increased so as to cover courier shipping costs; in fact, the profit margin drops by 5% because, in any case, the shipping cost has a bigger impact on the cost of the replacement part. Posta 4 is out of the question, already customers try to be clever with Posta 1, let alone with Posta 4 😂.
Let’s see what happens on Poste Italiane’s side, maybe this Posta 1 plus VAT comes out and we’re all saved (in the end the government taxes everything it can tax)... Better than nothing, as they say in Italy...

I was thinking of using eBay shipping because it's the cheapest and the minimum is to increase by 3 euros, I was considering increasing products up to 9.90 by 2 euros so as not to raise and mess up those prices too much, and then after all by 3 euros more

·5 months agoI increased the percentage based on the product cost; the real problem isn't so much how much you increase it because you'll definitely still sell the products even with a €3 increase. The real problem is how much the shipping cost affects your profit margin. If you were to get a return request, you'd end up losing a lot of money, something I hadn't considered before since with Posta 1 Pro a shipment cost you half as much.

I have quite a few items for sale precisely with posta1, I'll have to change a lot of listings.
Even if the packlink service offers shipping by courier for 5.11 euros, you have to factor in that:
1) Padded envelopes risk not being delivered properly (at least with other couriers there was the minimum of 2 cm for thickness).
2) Psychologically, setting shipping at 5.98 euros is not the same as 3.98 euros. I figure I have to print the label (with posta1 it wasn't necessary), I have to prepare a bigger package, and then I have to calculate eBay fees.
A real shame......

Obviously I don’t want to spam, but a fellow seller of mine on Amazon (I think he also has a store here on eBay) has launched a petition on change org regarding not getting rid of Posta 1 (it’s easy to find on Google by typing "Posta 1 petizione," so I’m not putting the link).
In our favor, Open has already done an interview (published online a few weeks ago already) with the seller who launched the petition, and the unions have already sent an official invitation to clarify the situation directly with the top management of Poste Italiane.
As I’m writing this to you (and all of you), we’re already at almost 1000 signatures and I’ve already spent €5 to promote it.
I’m not saying to spend money like I did, but a signature would be appreciated since here on eBay, more or less all of us use this shipping method and if they were to remove it from the Universal Service (and therefore be able to apply VAT to Posta 1 and increase prices) or even worse get rid of it altogether, it would be a problem for both us sellers and buyers.

will be discontinued.
Basically, priority mail is being excluded from the scope of the postal service: a condition requested by Italian Post from the government, which, with the 2026 budget law, “accommodated” the request in exchange for a 2036 extension of the Universal Service assignment.
And other European countries are not doing any better: for example, from January in Denmark it will no longer be possible to send any kind of letters (with the exception of Registered and Insured mail).
In other words: “Europe is making us do it”... ...a phrase we’re starting to get tired of hearing....

·5 months agoOther countries have parcel delivery services at prices we can only dream of, divided into weight bands. Germany has a service similar to posta 1, with a thousand variations. Just think, you can send up to one kilo with Deutsche Post for 1.80 euros
We're used to paying couriers 5 euros per shipment and that's madness!
We are the country with the highest prices and a non-existent range of services

In Germany salaries are definitely higher than ours, so the price gap on shipping rates would actually be even greater.

·4 months agoI had bought a pack of 50 padded envelopes specifically for shipping by post1.
The same padded envelopes are not good for shipping by courier because many automated sorting systems have difficulty detecting objects that are too thin (under 1-2 cm) on high-speed conveyor rollers. The risk is that the envelope will "slip" under the brushes or belts of the conveyors or simply get lost among lots of big parcels.
So if you need to ship a sticker, a card, a decal you also need to change the shipping format (minimum thickness of 2 cm).

·4 months agoI, apart from the roughly 3,000 padded envelopes that I’ll still use with regular shipments, still had 50 rolls of 2Dcomm stickers for priority mail, which even though they’re free at the post office, I had bought and paid for, so I could drop off priority mail directly without having to queue. It’s not a huge amount, but it’s still a little gift I made to the post office 😞
