Hello everyone and good morning.
As per the subject, I wanted to ask you about a curiosity regarding shipments by registered book mail.
Basically: lately, 3 shipments by book mail (registered, as I said) have gone from "out for delivery" to "return to sender," without any valid reason, since the address was correct, the details filled in by the senders were right (since I obviously checked myself from the photo of the receipt they had sent me), house number, first name, last name etc etc all clearly present and visible outside my home. In fact, even when speaking with Poste customer service operators, no one was able to give me a valid explanation for this, especially the fact that the book mails were sent straight back to the sender instead of being left, at least, at the post office closest to me. Among other things, regarding this issue, a fourth book mail (even before these last 3, in other words) followed this route some time ago, namely: tracking showed the item out for delivery but, unlike the last 3 I mentioned above, this one did not go to "return to sender" but to "held at the post office" so it was left at the post office closest to me and I went personally to pick it up. In this case too, though, there was an anomaly, since I had no notice of held item in the mailbox and so that means the postal worker didn’t even show up outside my house (also because they would have found me there that day if they had rung the bell) but redirected the item straight to the post office.
At this point, since I have this problem, oddly enough, only with registered book mail (since I’ve always regularly received ordinary ones, what a paradox!), and taking that book mail that was redirected to the post office as an example, I was wondering: when and if I need to have something sent to me by registered book mail, can I ask the sender to enter, as the shipping address, not my address but directly the address of the post office in my town? If so, is the data-entry procedure always the same (that is, my first and last name, then the address of the post office etc etc) or does it have to be done differently?
In addition to that, I wanted to ask you: is this problem, which is showing up continuously now (as I said, 3 in a row and let’s make it 4 if we count the book mail left for me at the post office) only happening to me or is it happening to others too?
Thanks.

·1 year agoas Milotemesvar pointed out, I would seriously consider the possibility that it's a problem with the mail carrier: if nothing used to happen before and recently this problem started happening, it could be that the "regular" mail carrier for your area has gone on vacation (given the period) or been replaced in the area by another, let's say, not exactly skilled person at the beginning (to put it mildly......) : years ago, for example, it was common practice for Poste to hire three-month mail carriers (so, fixed-term) and it was enough for them to have a middle school diploma..... now, if I'm not mistaken, you need to have a diploma obtained with a minimum score..... the fact remains that those hired, in most cases, have no previous experience...... so, to sum up, they basically gain "experience" on the job...... with all that follows....

OP1 year agoHi, thanks for your reply too. Anyway, yes, as I was saying to milo right in the previous reply, the only plausible explanation is this, namely that there is now a new mail carrier or whatever. But I want to point out that our regular mail carrier still delivers to us as normal, that is, just last week he delivered a registered packet (that my brother was waiting for), and I thought to myself, "okay then, since this one arrived, I trust it, they must have solved the problem" and that’s why later, when I had to get these books sent to me, from two different senders, I said okay, send them by registered packet, otherwise I would never have chosen this shipping method.
Maybe the local mail carrier was changed, but in that case (that is, when he delivered my brother’s packet) he was lucky enough to catch our usual mail carrier, who, knowing the street, the house and everything, brought it, otherwise that one would have been sent back to the sender too. In my case, on the other hand, I got (for a full 3 times, and let’s make it 4 considering the packet then left at the post office without even a notice of attempted delivery...) some mail carrier who’s just starting out/lazy or however we want to define him, and here we are...
In any case, yesterday I filed a complaint (attaching screenshots of the 4 shipments, to show how one was left at the post office and not delivered to my home, specifying that there was no notice of attempted delivery and that 3, instead, were sent back to the sender). Let’s see how this develops...
That said, though, would it also be worth going to my town’s post office and explaining the situation there personally? On top of that, as I was already asking above, if this situation doesn’t get resolved, in order to get around the problem once and for all, could I have the packets delivered directly to the post office? I mean, tell the senders to enter not my home address but rather the address of the post office in my town. If so, in that case does the packet then get delivered to the post office and stay there, like in the case of packets that end up in storage?
If that’s not possible, oh well, that would mean I’ll put the address of a relative/friend of mine who maybe lives more in the center, and then maybe, finally, these packets will get delivered...

·1 year agoA suspicion... is the house far from the inhabited center?
in this case I’m thinking of a lazy, unmotivated mail carrier.
But it’s already happened to me twice to find (after months) the attempted-delivery notice in the building’s mailbox with the word ADVERTISING prominently on it, and not in the mailbox with my surname. And they were important communications from the Revenue Agency!

OP1 year agoHi, yes, I live in the suburbs but there are plenty of other homes around here anyway, so it’s definitely fine. You don’t want to come all the way to my house for my delivery, but what are you doing, leaving all the other people “stranded” too then? Hm. In any case, as I was saying, anything else (regular mail, letters etc etc) is ALWAYS received without problems, so at this point I’m starting to think that ordinary mail is delivered by a postman (that is, our usual “regular” one that we all know here and who delivers without any problems) while registered mail is handled by other postmen/women who are basically lazy (or better yet: don’t give a damn).

OP1 year agoAnyway, I’ve already saved the screenshots of all 4 tracking pages for the last 4 registered parcels (the first two, the first of which was the one left at the post office, date back to June, the last two to July), so I can attach them to a complaint that next week I’ll send to Poste (hoping it might be useful for something...).

OP1 year agoAnyway, at this point I think it’d be best for me to go, as soon as I can, to my town’s post office and ask for an explanation, like maybe if they can tell me anything about this “behavior” or not...

·1 year agoHi, I send and receive registered book parcels fairly often all over Italy, and something like that has never happened to me. Only once did a shipment sent to Naples get sent back, but that was after the hold period at the post office and because the recipient said they had not received any storage notice in their mailbox.
It would be interesting to know whether, for other types of registered mail, you are left the storage notice when you are not home... because to me it seems more like a problem with the mail carrier in handling this type of mail.
As for shipping to the post office: I did it once, but the recipient was a Poste employee and worked at the post office itself. In this case the problem is that, since it is addressed to the post office, you would never receive a storage notice, but you would have to go in periodically to ask about your shipment. I don't know how feasible that is.

OP1 year agoOk got it, thanks.
However, considering that I would then have tracking and can therefore know when it is delivered to the post office, can't I just follow the tracking and once it arrives go pick it up?
I mean, if the problem is only this one (and not some other kind, in the sense of a “bureaucratic” issue) then I just solve it with tracking, right?
That said, anyway, as I was saying, in the time period when this problem happened with these 4 registered mail items, I instead regularly received various ordinary book mailings.
I mean, at this point I might as well not pay extra for registered mail and receive books only with ordinary mail. Hmm...

·1 year agoSince you didn’t specify it, the question naturally arises: but in the "book mailing" were there books (or publishing products) or something else?
