Should I insure the shipment?
Summary: antofranci asked for advice on insuring a shipment. marioelegio and heavenwelkin replied, but no details were provided in the responses.
Hello, I sold an item worth €399, and I selected “Other courier 3-5 days” as the shipping method.
I set a shipping cost of €10, and shipping costs €10.61, with insurance included up to €75; if instead I wanted insurance for the full value of the item, so €399, I would have to pay about €14 more. In this case, having selected “Other courier” as the shipping method, am I as the seller required to use insured shipping? Who should “take the loss” if the package is not insured and something happens... the seller or the buyer? Thank you very much

·1 year agoIf the buyer pays you 10 euros for shipping, you should cover the difference yourself.
If you ask the buyer whether they want to pay more to have insured shipping, they will definitely say no because they are still protected by eBay regardless of whether the package is insured or not.
The insurance has nothing to do with eBay and buyer protection.
If the package gets lost or arrives damaged, the buyer opens a claim with you and you have to refund them regardless of whether you insured the package or not.
Any insurance is handled by Packlink (if you want to use eBay shipping) and any refund is subject to terms and limitations.
For example, if the item arrives damaged, you need the buyer's cooperation: they have to keep the package, the packaging and the label, and provide cooperation during the initial stage of the dispute.
It is not certain that once the buyer has received their refund, they will want to waste time on these bureaucratic procedures, which are rather tricky.
The situation is different if the package is lost; in that case, if you meet all the conditions, you can open a claim without the buyer's cooperation.
In conclusion, carefully evaluate whether it is worth spending those 14 euros or settling for the free insurance included in the shipment, which covers up to 75 euros.
Kind regards

·1 year agoFor any problem with the package, the seller must reimburse the buyer and then try to recover it from the courier or from their insurance.
Read the insurance terms carefully, they almost never reimburse in case of damage, shifting the blame to the sender for inadequate packaging. Even in case of loss, they ask you to prove the value of the goods with purchase invoices, etc...
If you use Packlink (the one with the included 75 euro insurance) .... almost all products are excluded from the insurance. https://support-ebay.packlink.com/hc/it/articles/209034425-Articoli-proibiti-e-soggetti-a-restrizioni
I would advise you to look at the conditions of the insured postal package.
