The buyer asked me for my IBAN and then sent me some emails saying that the payment was made with escrow.
The transaction will go through when I ship the package.

·3 years agoOthers have already replied that it’s almost certainly a scam, because on eBay payments are made through eBay and you can verify them in your seller account, Escrow has nothing to do with it.
I’ll add that you can also report the buyer to eBay:

·3 years agoI’d avoid reporting it if he’s shared his IBAN. He’d be denouncing himself to eBay for attempting to evade fees.

·3 years agoYou're right. I had thought of an auction and payment still to be received, but then I looked at the listing and there was only the option for in-person pickup with no shipping.

The buyer who buys on eBay already has all the possible guarantees and protections in case of post-sale problems.
If the package gets lost, damaged, or turns out to have defects or issues, eBay already protects them.
What sense would it make for a buyer to pay the 3% escrow commission when, by paying on eBay, they don’t have any fees 😎 😎
So, simply by logical deduction, the buyer is trying to "scam" you
Stay away from anyone who wants to complete sales outside of eBay, because an HONEST buyer has nothing to gain from it, and if you make any step you’re not fully aware of, you risk losing the 1000 euros for the MacBook Air M1 you’ve put up for sale.

·3 years agoYou need to stay STILL and you must not send anything because you're the victim of a scam.
I recommend that you read up on how ebay works because you're a vulnerable user and scammers are waiting for exactly this kind of situation.
On ebay you should never send your IBAN
On ebay you must not communicate outside the site's messaging system and you must not send contact email addresses.
When you receive the ebay email saying that the buyer has sent the payment, go to your account and, to be safe, check that the money is in your ebay account (go to "payments" ---> "summary"), after which you ship and provide the tracking number.
