Disappointing experience with Packlink/eBay shipping manager
Summary: The discussion centers on a disappointing experience with the Packlink shipping service used through eBay. Several participants share their frustrations and the problems they encountered, including delays, ineffective communication, and difficulties resolving issues with customer service. The conversation includes requests for advice on alternatives and possible solutions to avoid such service failures in the future.
I’ve been on eBay for years, but I admit I’ve always snubbed this forum and I apologize for that.
Coming back to the topic, I’ve been shipping with Packlink since 2020 and up to now I’d never had any problems; however, I’m forced to flag the eBay shipping manager as a “trickster.” Over the course of a week, they charged me three “fines” for declaring incorrect weights on three different shipments.
The first fine was just five euros and I let it go; besides, the difference between the weight I declared and the one they recorded was minimal, so fair enough, I can make a mistake.
The second, which arrived a few minutes after the first, already started to make me suspicious. Looking at the tracking number, it was a small, lightweight model; the weight I declared was 1 kilo, the weight they recorded was 5 kilos, so I opened a dispute with PayPal because Packlink doesn’t जवाब and doesn’t even have a phone number. The dispute is still open. Also, I’ve noticed that for a few months Packlink has been using the wording “automatic payment” for payments, but anyone who sells even a little on eBay knows that this is absolutely not an automatic payment; it’s not like a Netflix subscription. This, though, is crucial, because the “automatic” wording allows Packlink to take money from your account without much trouble, so be careful! In the meantime I started getting suspicious, so I removed the automatic payment wording.
Today here we go again, but this one is really a joke: a fine of forty euros, the item is another 1:18 scale model, heavier, in fact I declared 2kg, Packlink recorded 18.7 kilos. Honestly, in all these years I’ve never shipped twenty kilos in a single order and I’d never have thought of doing so; I’m certain that the “disputed” parcel weighs much, much less than what the other party claims, and I don’t even know what this situation will lead to now that they’ve been blocked from my payment method.
I’m forced not to use the platform’s shipping manager, I have seven orders to ship and I don’t know how to do it or how to proceed. Unfortunately eBay can’t help me because they don’t handle the shipping directly, and frankly I no longer have any trust in Packlink. I have the strong feeling I’m only at the beginning of a nightmare, given that the “incriminated” parcels were shipped between December 10 and 15, and what if they start disputing everything I shipped in these months? Besides, they haven’t even replied to my emails where I simply asked to see proof of what they were claiming; it’s completely unfair behavior. Searching online, it seems I’m not the only one who’s ended up in this mess.
If this situation continues, the easiest solution I can think of is to leave eBay.

·10 months agoThis has happened to me several times too, the last time was just a few days ago, they asked me 40 days after shipping to pay an extra €3.3 + VAT for a declared weight of 1.3 kg versus the 6.9 kg they found. To accept the dispute, they asked me for photos of the package with the label on the scale and the display reading visible. The item I sent was a small panel-mounted instrument and, practically speaking, in order to weigh 6.9 kg the shipped package would have had to contain a solid block of iron. But I wonder, since they have raised the issue of an error in the weight, shouldn’t they show a photo proving what they are claiming?
heavenwelkin
·10 months agoa package weighing 1.3 kg must also be that in its volume (dimensions of the 3 sides).
If you ship (for example) a plastic flower pot, it will certainly weigh 1 kg but the shipment may end up at over 5 or 10 kg as volumetric weight.
I can tell you for sure that there are many users who declare lower weights and dimensions to pay less for shipping.
Sometimes they do it on purpose and sometimes, not having a scale or tape measure, they do it by eye.
This does not mean that you declared different weights and dimensions, but if you say it has happened to you already SEVERAL times, I would ask myself a couple of questions.
If it's packlink's fault, it's easy enough to switch shipping service since there are so many out there on the web.
Best regards

·1 year agoBeware, this company stores its customers' credit card data, including expiration dates and CVC, to apply chargebacks for small amounts, stealing from the customers themselves! They are not based in Italy, nor do they have legal representation, and those who write in their name are bots or lackeys based in Spain. Evidently, for a few bucks any job will do, even thief work...
heavenwelkin
·1 year agoLet me clear things up a bit...
How can Packlink automatically withdraw money from your credit card?
Answer: Through an implied authorization that is covered in their Terms and Conditions.
At the moment you complete your purchase on Packlink, you also accept a clause that essentially says:
"You agree that any differences in weight, dimensions, or other additional costs communicated by the carrier may be charged to the same payment method used for the purchase."
Even if you do not manually save the card in your Packlink profile, the authorization for deferred payment is considered an integral part of the sales contract.
These systems / mechanisms are SNEAKY because the user is almost never aware of which clauses they are accepting when completing a purchase via credit card or PayPal.
But if you want the lowest shipping rates available for a private seller, these are the service conditions.
Best regards.

·1 year agoit happened to me too 2 times, I ship a 50 cm gasket sheet rolled up (paper in a nutshell) it weighs 600gr but I put 1kg, after a month they want about 4 euros because the shipment comes out at 6.1kg, insane. I removed the automatic method from PayPal, I'm not giving them anything
heavenwelkin
·1 year agoHi gimamo81
50 cm, the packaged gasket will be a bit more.
If you put it in a cylinder, it is always calculated as if it were a rectangle.
Let's estimate 15 x 15 x 60 and we get a volumetric weight of 2.7 kg
Let's estimate 20x20x60 and we get a volumetric weight of 4.8 kg
If you entered 1 kg and did not enter the measurements correctly to pay the minimum 1kg rate then the problem is not with packlink nor with the courier.
You always have to calculate:
Actual weight
Volumetric weight

·1 year agoStay away from this company... I don't know how eBay manages to trust them... after arranging the shipment at a cost of 50 euros, plus 20 taken forcibly, I am forced to have the package returned to my home address. I admit I didn't calculate some things that I should have foreseen, but I wonder, can you spend 70 euros on a shipment that then doesn't go through and gets returned to the sender? It seems absurd to me... and no one protects us... they do whatever they want

·1 year agoIf you make even the slightest mistake and don't stick exactly to the required protocols, you get a wake-up call that makes most users lose the desire to try again.
On Amazon things work because you only deal with them, here you have to deal with eBay, the seller, the courier, the broker, the one delivering the parcels, the buyer, PayPal, the bank.....
There's no point beating around the bush, online remote sales that offer any kind of buyer protection are complex matters and you need to be an expert in many things related to sales.
In conclusion, the seller is the one who lights the match, and almost always has to keep it in his hand without being able to pass it on to someone else.
If the sale goes through successfully, the match goes out in time.
If the sale turns out to be problematic, the match keeps burning until the seller inevitably gets burned.

·1 year agoContact packlink through a ticket and show them the eBay auction for the item you're referring to.
From the item itself, roughly speaking, you can tell that if it weighs 1 kg it can't end up at 10 kg.
It's DIFFERENT if the volume of the package is greater than 1kg.
If you ship, for example, a 30 or 40 liter plastic container, this will have a volume greater than 1kg while weighing less than 1kg

·2 years agoIt’s pointless to shout scam and turn it into a shouting match....
You need to open a complaint with packlink by following the correct procedure.
Go to https://spedizioni.ebay.it/
For the shipment you want to dispute, go to Details and then open a support ticket.
Write: Dear packlink, I received a charge for a discrepancy in weight/dimensions of 9.5kg.
The auctions these charges refer to are these (attach photos and the auction titles), they are 3 minifigures weighing just a few grams.
I kindly request a refund of these unjustified charges, otherwise I will be forced to contact paypal to dispute these automatic withdrawals.
Unfortunately sometimes problems of this kind can happen, but it could also be a courier error during parcel weighing, where they maybe read / swapped a barcode.

Which shipping service did you purchase on packlink?
This is the insured poste delivery standard
https://business.poste.it/professionisti-imprese/poste-delivery-standard-servizi-e-accessori.html
quote:
Insurance
You can insure the value of the transported item (up to a maximum of 1032.91 euro), against direct and material damage resulting from transport, excluding any indirect damage attributable to delay, loss, tampering, or damage to the package.
Cost: 2.58 euro
Packlink is an intermediary between you and the courier; Packlink simply forwards the request as an intermediary, and if the request is not accepted by the courier, Packlink does not refund you.
The problem is that Poste Italiane, unlike other couriers, handles requests at a snail's pace, creating no small amount of trouble for those who do brokering.
If you had chosen a different service, let us know so we can see whether the insurance covered loss.
Kind regards.
P.S. If you need to ship goods of a certain value, avoid using POSTE ITALIANE, or even worse POSTE ITALIANE with intermediaries, especially online, and go in person (physically) to some XYZ courier shipping point that offers the best insurance coverage at a reasonable price.
You will spend a little more, but in case of problems you will have direct access to the courier and not through a ticket.

·3 years agoI'm sorry about your situation, but both in my private shop and in my professional one I've always avoided using Packlink or other similar shipping managers. What I suggest is always to handle the shipping part yourself, and when I was shipping as a private seller I used to go to the post office and drop off the parcel, filling out the waybill on site (a bit of a pain because of the queue and it always feels like you're the idiot doing weird things when you walk into a post office, but after a while you get used to it, plus if you're busy during the week you can also drop things off on Saturday in some places, not bad). Now, with the professional shop, I have subscriptions with both Poste and BRT. In this way, with my logistics handled internally, I can choose what suits me best based on the needs. To put it simply, I use a method where for large parcels I use BRT, while for small ones I use Poste. It's much more complex than that and you'll discover many things when you're a professional, but by handling everything myself this gives me a technical advantage over the competition from professional and private sellers who do dropshipping or use shipping managers, since at least I partly know how my goods are handled and if there are problems I can try to solve them internally unless the parcel gets lost, but trust me, handling part of the logistics process yourself, whether you're private or professional, makes the difference. Anyway, don't worry, I also started using the forum relatively recently, that is, since I opened the professional shop, also because before I never needed it. Anyway, if the situation gets worse try making a complaint to Paypal. Bye.

·3 years agoAt the post office, a Poste Delivery Standard 3-5kg costs 10.90 euros + of course the queue at the post office..... and the delivery times are not those of a 24/48-hour courier but much longer, even 5 or 7 working days.
The alternative to get shorter shipping times and more affordable costs is precisely a shipping broker that offers courier shipping starting from 5.22 euros (see the eBay shipping service with BRT).
A direct contact by a private individual or a professional without any subscription with one of the many couriers ends up costing an arm and a leg, we're talking even over 20 euros for a 5kg package.
The possible risk in buying a shipping label from a broker is generally offset by the low shipping cost.
Let's compare the BRT service of the eBay shipping manager with delivery to an access point, 5 kg package at a cost of 5.80 euros.
At the post office, to get a delivery within 48 hours (to keep up with BRT times), I have to buy Poste Delivery Express, which for 5kg costs 16.90 euros.
I do 20 shipments with the eBay manager and spend 116 euros
I do 20 shipments with the postal service and spend 338 euros.
If the items are well packed and the package is well sized for the item being shipped, statistically the chances of a package getting lost or arriving damaged are quite low, and that very large difference in shipping cost for the same service speed I really can't justify, especially if you're selling items of little value around 100 euros.
Maybe if I have to sell a particularly expensive and delicate item (like a work computer), I can certainly consider (and maybe it's the wisest thing to do) going physically to an official branch of a national courier and booking insured shipping, paying maybe 30 euros, so that if something unexpected happens I could deal directly with the branch employee rather than sending virtual tickets without getting the same feedback.
But overall, looking at the numbers, I'm more inclined toward saving on shipping costs for items up to 100 or 200 euros, always provided they are packed properly and the package is sized well, avoiding making 10kg packages with volumetric weight of 3 kg (when you have another 7 kg available to us that have already been paid for) because in that case, if it arrives broken, the fault is not really the courier's but of whoever doesn't have the right experience to prevent that from happening.
A real practical example that actually happened: shipping a 15.4-inch ThinkPad notebook wrapped in bubble wrap and then black cellophane (the equivalent of shipping it in a padded envelope). An actual weight of about 3kg and a volumetric weight of about 0.55kg, dimensions 26x36x3 cm.
Whoever does these things and then complains to the courier that their package arrived broken should not be reimbursed, and in fact if you've noticed lately, reimbursement policies have become quite restrictive compared with just 10-15 years ago.
With this trend of making shipping easy and accessible to everyone, the results are there 🤣😂

·3 years agoOn the point that maybe the carrier could cut some costs, I agree too, but I also think that a private seller would hardly ship parcels of 5 kg or more, and moreover, at least for me and for many buyers, waiting 5/7 working days if stated in advance I don't think is a big problem, beyond the fact that wanting express courier times, or even worse Amazon times, is something many private sellers can do without, and going to the post office to send a parcel under 3 kg costs less than €10 anyway, which I don't think is that big a problem in terms of money spent. So maybe packlink could be suitable if you ship big parcels or abroad, for convenience's sake (and the cases in which a private seller might find themselves in these situations are quite rare, they basically have to want it with all their heart). In any case, although I have noticed that some are now used to Amazon times, which to me are insane, if you state in advance that you can't guarantee certain times users normally accept it, besides the fact that if they want Amazon times they normally stay there and not on eBay, even if there are several little idiots who expect the same guarantees as Amazon on eBay, but to me those are either naive people or idiots who should avoid using the internet. Coming back to the talk about carriers, I noticed various online reviews of these service providers where often many of them are usually heavily criticized because many times they are not transparent with those who choose to use their service, giving vague information about the parcel's transaction status, and since they handle the delivery for you it becomes much more complicated to understand the status of an item because you have an intermediary who usually has to handle many requests and therefore cannot even give you much attention. In the case of the guy in question, therefore, I think that if he had chosen a standard postal service he would not have had the same problems with fines over the package dimensions, but would only have had to pack the parcel well and send it by post without standing there measuring the volume and the weight of the product, since they have the scale on the counter that weighs the parcel directly and the information to write on the shipping label is very simple. Also, it should be added that Packlink, to make a margin from shipping, even for private users, usually charges you more than you could pay by doing it yourself, for example when you need to send packages under 100 g and you're happy to use the Posta 1 service and not the usual delivery with tracking code. I understand that using this method is a borderline practice and it would be better to avoid using it since it is made for sending documents, that said with €2.80 you can send an item at prices much lower than those offered by packlink, besides the fact that those €2.80 can be lowered if you are a professional and have the relevant subscription activated, and I assure you that on low-value items the game is worth the candle even for professionals because the relative savings generated by multiple sales using this system guarantee you a saving such that you can afford to refund even more than one product even though you do not have insurance on the goods. Also, in some cases Posta 1 can even arrive the day after you sent it, which is not nothing.
As for the guy who wrapped the pluribal with cellophane with a computer inside, he is an animal to study in terms of rarity because he didn't have the intelligence to use even a box and some newspapers to cushion the blows during the trip. A c***k of a genius 🤣🤣🤣🤣

·3 years agoRegarding packlink and alleged incorrect measurements, it seems to me that a broker who wants to take advantage shouldn’t put in place systems that warn when there are possible discrepancies between the declared weight and dimensions.
Other brokers don’t have similar "precautions".
Let’s be frank ...... users tend to declare less (to pay less) in the hope that they won’t be caught.
An individual who ships occasionally generally does not have a scale that allows them to weigh packages of 3, 5, 10, 15 or more kilos, apart from the scale they usually have in the bathroom to weigh people or the one in the kitchen to weigh the grams of pasta, which usually has a capacity of 2 or 3kg.
So, partly out of cleverness, partly out of laziness (nobody leaves home specifically to have the package weighed by a third party), these packages end up being NON-COMPLIANT when the courier measures / weighs them.
In 20 years of shipping with ebay and dozens of different brokers used, I have never received any non-compliances except when there were errors due to label swaps by the courier, but those were a couple of fairly isolated cases in 20 years, so all in all I didn’t tear my hair out.
When here on the forum or in reviews a customer says that the broker steals money with shipping discrepancies, I’m pretty cautious because from my personal experience it has never happened to me with any of the more famous shipping brokers (and I’ve tried them all).
Of course, some error or issue can certainly happen (and then gets resolved), but not with the frequency claimed in reviews because that’s not credible.
Even on ebay there aren’t all these posts about the alleged discrepancies of packlink, if it were an established practice by the broker, we would certainly have dozens of posts about it on a regular basis.
Many reviews are written by:
1) Competitors who want to discredit
2) Users who know they bluffed but weren’t happy about being caught.
3) Users who are not fully aware that they declared different weights and dimensions, who don’t understand and don’t accept a request for additional payment on the shipment.
Even in the 1kg bracket, there is still savings in relying on a shipping broker rather than the post office.
Given that nowadays even the post office offers nothing more than others in terms of protection for lost or damaged parcels, and given that sometimes the post office is crowded and you have to wait a while before your turn comes, I’d say that a shipping broker is an alternative option worth considering without too many prejudices, because the person writing this has used them for 20 years with satisfaction.
Kind regards.

·3 years agoMany reviews are also written by:
4) People like me who have shipped collectible cards and who received 2 invoices in one month for incorrect weight, they told me the packages weighed more than 10 kg... absurd and I'm not the only one...
For now you've been lucky and you haven't had any problems with the shipping provider yet, but you can't ignore the voices of many of us who are having these problems...
Here I've always packaged everything properly, with a ruler and a scale, and on top of that I also declare a few extra grams to have a bit of a safety margin.
I know other people who are having serious problems with Packlink, but they don't use the Ebay forum.
We'll see how they intend to proceed, I hope they resolve these ''possible'' system errors... 😂
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoBut the solutions to any issues of this type are still workable.
If you shipped collectible cards and were charged a discrepancy for a 10kg package, you can first of all open a ticket with Packlink support.
You can disable PayPal automatic charges
You can open a PayPal dispute for that payment that you believe was not due.
When events happen on eBay like:
- the forum doesn't work and the pages don't load
- the coupon expired a few hours before midnight
There are always users who post on the forum.
What I mean by this is that if the problem of discrepancies had been recurring, there would have been dozens of posts about it.
But then, still regarding the reviews on Trustpilot about Packlink, one should also read the positive ones but above all look at how Poste Italiane services are reviewed, again on Trustpilot......
Judging from the exclusively negative reviews, it would seem that 97% of shipments have problems, but in reality we're always and only talking about small percentages of issues, where most users certainly don't spend time writing POSITIVE reviews when that is what should be expected when you pay for a service that is regularly carried out.
In any case, it should not be ruled out that the problem (if recurring) may be with the branch responsible for the courier that has issues with discrepancies rather than with Packlink.
On the other hand, if Packlink receives discrepancies with a request for reimbursement from the courier, they simply pass the buck to the person who purchased that shipment.
Best regards.

the only thing that saves them are the rates which in some cases are more convenient than the competition

·3 years agoProfessional sellers with VAT numbers can get discounted rates directly with the various couriers, so they have direct contact with the courier in case of problems.
Private individuals can rely on brokers (resellers) who are usually all FANTASTIC until things go well and then.....
There are hundreds of brokers competing fiercely by offering lower and lower rates, but we still stay around 7 euros for small parcels.
The lower the prices are, the more it means the broker has no employees (in some cases only the VAT holder works there, taking care of everything, from the website to orders, etc. and if they were to get sick or something else, you can imagine what might happen 🤣😂
Feel free to use the service you advertised, but I advise you not to ship expensive or delicate goods.
Remember that they are brokers and any dispute or claim for compensation goes through them first.
It can easily happen that compensation that is due to you (maybe for a broken item with insured shipping) arrives to them and they simply pocket it instead of you, telling you that the insurance didn't cover it and making up some excuse.
So be careful both about promoting these unknown, niche services and about using them for important shipments because not everything that glitters is gold.

For example, since these places called fermopoint are so trendy these days, it would be useful if they acted as certifiers for the packages delivered to them.

·3 years agoQuestion: Are the measurements you made really 20x20x20 for 0.7kg of weight?
You declared 20x20x20 and they calculated 31 x 9.5 x 13
Because if the measurements aren’t taken correctly, it ends up that at the check a discrepancy is still reported. A discrepancy that the courier then has to verify by checking with the broker to see whether it falls within the paid tariff and therefore whether it is covered or not.
So it would be better to measure the package, if anything, by excess so that it doesn’t end up inside a discrepancy-management mechanism. Those 16.1kg could also be 1.61kg, if there’s a bug in the system or some other kind of problem during data processing.
The frequency with which you’re being “hassled” by these discrepancies is unusual; if that were the case, the forum would be flooded with similar requests.
It’s more likely that there is some problem with your account, maybe some kind of error and you’re being mistaken for another name, I don’t know, it’s just a hypothesis.
You need to contact Packlink and point out to them that a 1:43 scale model cannot weigh that much even with super-strong, super-protected packaging.
Kind regards.

·3 years agoI don't have much experience, but to avoid problems I always pay with disposable cards; in particular, I get on really well with Revolut, which every time it's used generates a new one for me automatically, with no hassle at all and zero worries.
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoAnd if you then need to get money back for problems with a shipment that gets canceled because the buyer no longer wants the item, or because a shipping label is generated with errors, or for any other issue related to the shipment?
In case of shipment cancellation or a refund in the event of damage or loss, how do you then get your money back or the compensation you’re entitled to??
Kind regards.

·3 years agoCards never have any kind of power/money in them; everything is withdrawn and eventually refunded from the reference account even if the card has been closed/blocked or, as mentioned, is disposable
sika700
·3 years agoThat’s not entirely correct... there are also disposable cards that you buy for a certain € and they have a certain € "inside"... so they do have money in them and are totally independent from any account... so in cases of refunds with these types of cards... that’s where the doubt comes up!
Kind regards.

·3 years agobut no, those aren’t even to be taken into consideration obviously, what are you gonna do, go buy one every time you have an order? ahahah crazy
sika700
·3 years agoUnfortunately, some people do...

·3 years agoSo if they can reverse a payment from a disposable card that has been cancelled and comes from a Revolut account, they can also withdraw money for Packlink amounts that are due, from a disposable card created by Revolut, wouldn't you agree?
In any case, considering that on eBay there is no obligation to use the Packlink+eBay services, if needed you can always use another shipping broker that does not require any authorization for automatic withdrawals.
Kind regards
onlyjody
·3 years agoYou can also enter the maximum amount that can be charged to a specific card, which is therefore equal to the label price. Obviously, for someone who has dozens of orders every week, it becomes a burden, but if you want to feel safe with your money, you have to pay with time.
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoOf course, many things can be done, the fact remains that in the event of unpaid debts they can activate debt collection.
Is it worth it for a few euros to end up having to pay much more significant amounts?
Kind regards.

·3 years agoI always make videos of the packaging and final weight, yes, because they’ll be the ones who have to prove that the parcel did not match the weight and dimensions I declared if they want to collect additional money (which is impossible if you know you declared and proved the weight honestly).
If instead you let them have free rein to charge you, they’ll try to be sneaky because it costs them nothing, and then it’ll be up to you to prove otherwise in order to get the money back.

·3 years agoConsidering your THREE years of business activity, have you ever thought about getting everything in order by opening a VAT number, so that you could subscribe directly to a courier and get discounted rates?

·3 years agoMany sellers do not take into account that volumetric weight also exists.
If I ship a package of 100 padded shipping envelopes I will definitely have a weight of less than 1KG but a volumetric weight of more than 5kg
The volumetric weight of 1kg corresponds to 5000 cubic cm
To calculate volumetric weight, multiply the 3 sides of the package (for example 35 x 35 x 25= 30625) the result obtained is divided by 5000 (for example 30625 divided by 5000 = 6.12 kg).
That said, if you think there are obvious anomalies, it would be better to open a support ticket with packlink.
Kind regards.
milotemesvar
·3 years agoIn Packlink’s form, though, they don’t ask for anything like that, only normal weight and dimensions.
Volumetric weight is something that concerns only them and their dealings with the shippers.
I’d add that there have already been reports of similar unjustified “fines,” not just on this forum
https://community.ebay.it/t5/Supporto-Tra-Utenti/Notifica-di-recupero-crediti-PACKLINK-%C3%A8-una-truffa/m-p/967037
but also on the Altroconsumo site, even from “a few dozen grams” declared to 46 Kg according to Packlink, with a charge of 246 Euro!

·3 years agoGood morning militemesvar
In fact, you're simply asked to enter the weight and dimensions and nothing more; then the system takes care of making the necessary calculations, and so far so good.
But if a seller makes a mistake (deliberately or not) by entering the correct package measurements, maybe because from the simulations they get a lower price with smaller measurements, or because instead of rounding up they round down the measurements, for example 25,3 x 23,2 x 15,4 become 25x23x15 when in reality the courier calculates them as 26x24x16, that's when the charges arrive to make up the difference.
With packlink+ebay I have been working together since the first day the service went live and to date I have not found any anomalies or problems of this kind, beyond that I don't know.
Best regards.
milotemesvar
·3 years agoOf course, and I’m sure there are cases like that too.
In my case (in recent years I’ve mainly sold records, books, used watches, and small collectible Ferrari items) when I fill out the forms in eBay’s Shipping Manager, which uses Packlink, to be on the safe side I always add a few more centimeters and a bit more weight; the price doesn’t change anyway, at least with DHL up to 3kg.
But if, for the person who started the discussion, they assign 18.7 instead of 2kg, or (as in the case of the person who wrote to Altroconsumo) the shipment of a small HD becomes "a package 85X75X37 weighing 46KG" then something is not right.
What I will definitely do, when I start selling again, is also take photos of the package on the scale, with the eBay shipping manager label clearly visible.
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoIn my opinion, if you ship a 1:18 ~ 1:24 scale model car, I think it is enough to open a ticket and point out that a 300 or 400 gram model was shipped, to highlight the obvious mistake.
If you decide to take this route, I also recommend weighing and measuring just the item to be shipped and then also all the packaging, because while with the packaging you could fudge the dimensions and the weight of the item you need to ship, you can't really fudge it all that much.
If you ship a fountain pen and they dispute that the weight, instead of 0.5kg, comes out to 20kg, it is easier to show that it is their mistake rather than yours.
Anyway, until it happens to me, I'll keep calm.
I don't want to worry about it ahead of time..... there are already so many issues with sales that require close attention, for now I'll skip this "paranoia". 😎
Best regards.

OP3 years agoThank you for the excellent response, which I also find plausible; the problem in my case is the excessive discrepancy between the items I sell, the weight I recorded, and the one declared by packlink. I was talking about a "scientific" practice since the weight recorded by them automatically puts you into different cost tables; in short, if I had declared 1kg and they had recorded 2kg, nothing would have changed because the shipping cost would remain the same, whereas in my case the weights lead to "absurd" costs even for the shipping itself.

·3 years agoIf you rely on the packlink service for shipping, keep in mind that it is a broker, meaning a reseller of services on behalf of the various national carriers.
If we rule out an error by the seller (so let's assume that weights and measurements are correct), there may have been an error during the parcel weighing phase by the carrier, or some other kind of error by the carrier, or an error by the broker (in this case packlink).
When these things happen, you who have purchased the label must contact packlink, which in turn must contact the shipper.
If you were disappointed by packlink, the simplest solution is to use one of the many shipping brokers you can find through a Google search. They don't bind you to accepting clauses where they can withdraw money in the event of discrepancies.
And I think there can be a NICE difference in the event of a dispute over a discrepancy that has already been paid and one that still has to be paid. Because in the first case they will tend not to listen to you, in the second case they will have to give you convincing reasons so that you decide to pay the difference.
When and if packlink sends me discrepancies that are not correct without these being fixed/resolved through a support ticket, I will switch to another shipping reseller service.
In the end, shipping rates can differ by 50-80 cents from one broker to another (there are really many of them offering this type of service), so switching to another broker, besides being feasible, is also not very traumatic.
Best regards.

OP3 years agoIt seems I wasn't specific about it, but I replied promptly to Packlink's automatic emails, but to this day they still haven't replied to me and a week has already passed. The first communication about the discrepancy in the weight arrived either on February 2 or 3, the second a few minutes later. I replied to both asking for official documentation and other info; to these emails of mine, I received two automatic replies saying that if I wanted to contest this decision I had to provide photos, etc. of the parcel, so I replied to those as well, but I haven't received any communication to this day.

OP3 years agoWhen I book a shipment through the eBay form, they ask for the package dimensions in cm and its weight, then objecting afterward like Packlink does that the weight is "volumetric" makes me think they're pretty "slick".

·3 years agoI've never used it, anyway a few days ago I had read another post on the forum by another user who was complaining about these skewed weight measurements.

·3 years agoI was forgetting.....for the 7 orders you need to ship, trust someone who ships directly; in the meantime, if you're in a hurry, send it with Poste's standard package, it'll cost more but if you think about it, with all these amounts of fake fines from packlink you would have even saved with Poste. Then, when you have time, choose a direct and reliable carrier.
automobilineamoruso
OP3 years agoI searched a bit on the internet and indeed I'm not the only one who has had these problems, in fact I even got off lightly. Too bad, because it was really convenient
actar80
·3 years agoAs I was telling you choose a direct and reliable carrier, it will cost more but you’ll have fewer problems, or if you want to keep shipping costs low choose another broker (as already suggested to you) but first read the reviews / experiences online.
