Blocked funds
Good evening, I know there are lots of posts reporting this problem but I’m really frustrated and I think that, once I receive the payments, I’ll close the account.
I sold an item, which arrived regularly and the buyer even left positive feedback. Nevertheless, the system tells me that the payment is blocked until about mid-September because I’m an infrequent seller. After contacting support, I’m told that I still have to wait the two weeks “to protect the buyer.” But if the buyer has already received the item and left positive feedback, what needs protecting? I would understand if the buyer hadn’t left feedback, but in my case it’s just an excuse to keep my money.
And don’t tell me it’s written in the rules, because the rules say: “New sellers are usually subject to holds for a maximum of 14 days.” More than a maximum, those 14 days seem like a minimum to me.
Sorry for the rant.

·4 years agoIf you do the math correctly, you have THREE items sold, one on the 28th, one on the 30th and one on the 31st of August... so the two weeks fall exactly in mid-September... what's the problem?
The rules were applied to the letter, and moreover, if you had kept reading, you would have found: "...New sellers are usually subject to blocks for a maximum of 14 days, although sometimes the times can be longer..." so under the new rules the delivery confirmation and receipt of feedback have been removed and the wait has been shortened... before it was 21 days!
So this is not your case, support confirmed the 14 days for you, so you just have to be patient... and if the wait is a problem, I think it’s a good compromise, since eBay, compared to other sites, has more visibility...
Best regards.

OP4 years agoI think I already wrote it and it seemed pretty clear to me. If the rules say "up to a maximum of 14 days", I understand that the hold can last 2, 5, 9, 12... 14 days. The reality is that the hold lasts 14 days, period.
Wrongly, I thought the hold could last less than 14 days, for example when a seller receives positive feedback. That’s my logic: if the buyer has received the item and expressed their satisfaction after three days, why keep the payment on hold? Certainly not to protect the buyer, that seems obvious to me. The problem isn’t the wait, especially since luckily I have a job and I don’t live off the very rare sales on ebay. The issue is that they’re keeping my money without any logical justification. The admins will have done their calculations and no one will miss me on this site, so I’m waiting to cash out and then I’ll close the account.

·4 years agoBut since you are a NEW seller, I would have taken into account what support said... why try to understand anything else, when support was clear?
The "up to a maximum of 14 days" may apply to those who have already made several sales... support itself told you that it takes 15 sales to remove the holds... logic should have made you understand something else, but if we "fossilize" on our own "wants"... personal logic is useless!
Also remember that if you have sales, you won't be able to close the account before 60/90 days... it's up to you to understand the logic behind why...
Best regards.

OP4 years agoI’m reporting below what the rules say under the heading “Pending payments”.
New or infrequent sellers will see their transaction pending until we receive confirmation that their items have been delivered to the buyer. This helps sellers build and create a secure sales history on eBay. New sellers are usually subject to holds for up to 14 days, although sometimes the time can be longer
To me it seems pretty clear, it’s written in Italian. The agent I spoke with and the rules say two different things. Moreover, the first underlined part says one thing and the second says another.
Everything could be simplified by writing: “New or infrequent sellers will see their transaction pending for at least 14 days”. But even if it were written the right way, I still wouldn’t be happy: is your goal to protect the buyer? Fine, the moment the buyer is satisfied you give me my money and, if you hold it back, it means you’re doing it for other reasons.
The issue of the 15 sales was mentioned to me by the agent, but it isn’t stated anywhere in writing.
I’m not interested in carrying this polemic any further, I just hope that my post and all the comments will be useful to someone in the future.

·3 years agoI’m in the same situation: funds blocked, account verified, shipping number entered, package received by the user for more than 48 hours, positive feedback exchanged, user more than satisfied, money blocked for 30 days. It’s fine to prevent scams, but this seems excessive to me.

·3 years agoHello
Think that before, the waiting days for the funds to be released were on average 14, evidently someone still managed to carry out scams in that time frame.
eBay currently takes up to 30 days to release funds to new sellers and/or sellers who are not very active, so all you can do is wait.
Kind regards.

·3 years agoI think the idea is to cover the 30 days of eBay's guarantee, because unfortunately it happens that after the sale someone cleverly blocks the authorization of the eBay mandate at the bank and eBay is forced to have debt collection step in (which still has a cost). I understand that it is annoying as well as excessive... fortunately PayPal does not apply it with the 6-month buyer protection! Unfortunately, that's how it is and no one can do anything except delete the account.
This is what eBay usually replies to every update of the Terms:
