Funds blocked for 18 days?
Hello everyone. I recently sold my first item on ebay. Once I received the payment I proceeded with the shipment, only later did I notice that the balance showed "funds blocked until the 27th..." I read the reason and I agree with it too but is this procedure done for every sale?? I mean, every time I have to wait almost 20 days to have the money available...

·3 years agoTo me this eBay thing is a straight-up scam, I can’t even understand why no one intervenes against them; eBay must be paying them too. Anyway, I see it as a SCAM against honest sellers like me and others

·3 years agoGranted that the "problem" for a private seller who makes occasional sales is, in my opinion, marginal.
If you sell a used item that is your property, you can wait the necessary time and only cover the shipping cost upfront.
On Amazon all sellers receive their payouts after 15 days, while on eBay once it is unlocked you receive them after 1 or 2 working days.
In my opinion the "problem" is just the "inconvenience" of not being able to freely use your own money immediately, which sends many aspiring sellers into a crisis.
If a seller goes into crisis over this aspect of selling, I can't even imagine how they might react in the event of a dispute over a non-conforming item........
If a private seller starts selling regularly, after a certain number of sales (around 15) that go through successfully, it gets unlocked and they receive the payouts within two working days.
The "real" problems in my opinion are others.
The possibility that a buyer can open 3 claims ebay/paypal/chargeback for questionable reasons and without the burden of proof in a time frame of respectively 1 / 6 / over 12 months.
Selling a used notebook as a private seller and receiving a chargeback after 13 months because in the meantime the notebook broke down, I find that an excessive compromise toward a private seller who makes occasional sales.
PRIVATE SELLERS WHO DO NOT WANT TO HAVE AFTER-SALE OBLIGATIONS SIMILAR TO THOSE OF PROFESSIONAL SELLERS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM ALL THOSE MARKETPLACES THAT OFFER ONLY ELECTRONIC PAYMENTS VISA / MASTERCARD.
Then you have to add that without these payment methods it is hard for anyone to manage to sell EFFECTIVELY remotely.
So the private seller who wants to sell remotely has to make COMPROMISES.
Kind regards.

·2 years agocompletely disagree with the previous reply; not everyone is a rich man, having to wait 15 days to receive credit for money already paid and goods already delivered on every sale goes against every commercial rule; moreover, selling fees were applied to one item taken from another sale without them being deducted from that same sale!!! Basically I sold a calendar, the buyer paid 10.90, the calendar arrived, all good, not only did I have to wait 15 days to unlock the funds (with the related interest in eBay's favor) but instead of 8.90, my profit net of fees was credited as 3.36 euros!!!! They withheld the fees from another sale on this one (6 euros) that had nothing to do with it!!! Basically I was paid 10.90 euros, and I spent 5.20 on shipping, 6 euros in fees, basically I LOST MONEY TOO!!!! Amerians from Lucca, as they say where I come from.
And it's not okay either to say " if you don't like it, that's your problem " , they said that to the overexploited miners in Belgium too, but that does not mean it is right or lawful.
I am amazed that all this can be allowed !!!
THEY KEEP YOUR MONEY BUT THEY TAKE THEIR FEES STRAIGHT AWAY FROM YOUR WALLET !!!!
NO , this really isn't right !

·2 years agoGood evening, right or wrong ... whether they are reasonable or not ... these are eBay’s rules for sales since mid-2021.
You, having never sold before (at least that’s what your seller feedback shows), are considered a new seller.
In the end, eBay says that: " New or infrequent sellers will see their transaction held for the time necessary to familiarize themselves with best selling practices. This helps sellers obtain and build a secure sales history on eBay. New sellers are usually subject to holds for up to 14 days, although sometimes the times may be longer"
You can find all the information on this page:
https://www.ebay.it/help/selling/getting-paid/handling-payment-disputes-managed-payments-seller?id=4816
As for the fees charged, you probably have a charge set up with a time interval, so you don’t pay the fees on the first sale right away, but if, for example, the setting is weekly, the fees from all the sales for that week are added together.
You should check in your account settings how often eBay fees are paid.

·2 years agoIf on one sale you pay the fees of two sales, on the other you pay nothing. So you certainly can't complain about that.
The rules exist; if you accept them, you play, otherwise you don't step onto the field.

·3 years agoHi, a year ago the same thing: hold for the first sale, for verification of the Postapay IBAN account. I don’t remember exactly whether it was 15 or 20 days, eBAY sent me the payment, for the following sales the credit was always made to me in 2 days and 3 banking days of processing. It has nothing to do with whether the shipment is tracked or not. Anyway, if the package doesn’t arrive to the buyer, you have to issue a refund.

·3 years agoI simply don’t ship and I cancel the sales when eBay doesn’t credit me within 4 days, there’s no way I’m shipping before seeing the amount in my account. I sell less and that’s totally fine with me; otherwise the only thing left is to close the account and I’m thinking about it, anyway by now as a platform it’s become poor, it’s not very useful

·3 years agoDo you mean that ebay sometimes credits you the money right away and sometimes doesn’t?

·3 years agoA shame, funds blocked for 37 days between the hold and the credit to the account. Foreign user receives the package after 5 days, used item in excellent condition with over 15 years of use, leaves me feedback and thanks me, perfect transaction. eBay continues, holds the funds for another 32 days for no reason. But what kind of system is this, item received, customer satisfied, transaction closed. If you think badly, you’re probably right, what do they do with this money? Then another thing I find shameful: blocking the shipping funds, block the funds for the item, not the shipping costs. If after 25 days of use the component stops working for various reasons, we provide a guarantee on used items with more than 15 years of use, meaning the user is free to declare whatever they want and be easily refunded. None of this is right, I’ll never sell on eBay again, never. I’m writing this so maybe it can be useful to someone before selling something.

·3 years agoThe new system immediately showed many flaws. eBay decided to split off Paypal which, for all its imperfections, is clearly more convenient and more professional in handling complaints, in order to hand payments over to Adyen, an external company that then has to communicate with eBay; in short, it split off a type of payments/complaints/returns management without providing another equally immediate and effective one.
In addition, Paypal has remained on the buyer side only, creating a double track (the buyer thinks the seller receives the money immediately, as was the case until 2 years ago) and therefore not a little confusion.
I hope they understand that in the long run this is not okay, there are not a few complaints, but I doubt the powers of customer support, which anyway will never read here on the forum.

·4 years ago"New or infrequent sellers will see their transaction pending until we confirm that their items have been delivered to the buyer."
This confirmation may come from feedback left by the buyer (but it is not mandatory).
One thing you can do to speed things up is enter the shipping code (e.g. Posta1, Registered Mail, package...).

·2 years agoHello, apart from new sellers or sellers who aren't very active, sometimes eBay holds on to what's due longer than is lawful and well beyond the completed and confirmed delivery. Service issues or something else?

·2 years agoYou signed up with this account in 2008, with 34 sales in total.
The feedback as a seller dates back more than 1 year.
Recent seller feedback is relatively few for you to be considered a REGULAR seller.
You therefore need to refer to the regulations in force regarding funds blocked for a certain number of days regardless of whether the package has been delivered and positive feedback has been received.
Kind regards.
