FedEx package from Japan returned to sender
Good morning, I bought a second-hand Schott leather jacket made in the USA on PayPal from Japan (over there they’re very common and well cared for). After 10 days of waiting, the seller shipped the package on 1/16, it arrived in Italy on 1/19 and from there it went to customs where it has been sitting. Naturally I was expecting some communication from customs, but nothing; I wrote twice to FedEx without receiving a reply and then to the Lonate post office offices (where the package was physically located), who at least replied promptly saying it was none of their business.
Today I received an automated message telling me that the package will be sent back to the sender.
The FEDEX tracking is this: 393371784763
So two questions:
1) what happened, will I never find out?
2) what do I need to do for a possible refund (I doubt the seller will want to resend the item to me)?

OP3 years agoThanks to you both, I suspected something like that. I wrote to the seller right away, let’s see if they’ll reply.

·3 years agoIf the package was rejected because of a missing documentation issue, they have to send it back to you again at their expense or refund you.
If they weren't able to contact you for payment of duties or if there was a customs problem, you won't get any refund (Not covered by eBay's guarantee if: The buyer did not pay customs duties or taxes for other reasons).
I would contact the seller to try to understand what happened; when the package is returned, they "must" have information on the reason it was rejected. Then I would ask them what they intend to do.
If they don't take care of it on their own, to ask eBay for a refund after the delivery deadline expires: https://www.ebay.it/help/buying/returns-refunds/ottieni-aiuto-per-un-oggetto-che-non-arrivato?id=4042&st=7&po=1&uci=0&ri=0

·3 years agoThe explanation is instead in the entry: "The shipment must go through a formal customs clearance process and is therefore delayed."
Translated from bureaucratese, this means that the customs declaration (from the sender) was not in order, so it had to be handled manually.
Probably some irregularity came up (e.g. prohibited goods or goods that can only be imported with special procedures) or, more simply, a pro forma invoice with incorrect data.
The shipment has been released and so someone (the sender) authorized FedEx to do it (in fact, there is a new waybill number).
