PACKLINK automatically charges additional improper amounts
Summary: The discussion concerns an issue with PACKLINK, where a participant reports that improper charges were automatically applied. No further details or solutions are provided in the replies that follow.
PackLink charged an additional €6 to my PayPal account without any authorization for a supposed discrepancy in the “audited” actual weight of 4.5 kg versus the 4 kg I declared (in reality it was 3.8). It was the first time I used this service, chosen as a convenient way to make a shipment abroad that already cost €23, but after this experience I will never trust them again. Moreover, to contest what they took from me, they ask for a photo of the package on the scale sent a month earlier, something I would never have thought to take. They should be the ones sending proof of what they are asking for, but they are acting in bad faith.
Clearly I do not recommend PackLink to anyone; if you absolutely must use it, WEIGH AND PHOTOGRAPH THE PACKAGE AND ALL THE MEASUREMENTS WITH A TAPE MEASURE IN HAND, and be careful because they set up automatic payment on your accounts and CHARGE THIS WAY? WITHOUT CONSENT AND WITHOUT GIVING YOU THE POSSIBILITY TO CONTEST THE UNAUTHORIZED CHARGE

·5 months agoYou can’t even imagine how many users try to pull a fast one by declaring weights and dimensions that are significantly different in order to pay less.
Personally, out of about 300 shipments with them, I only got 1 charge for weight/dimensions discrepancies, for a few euros.
Packlink is the broker with the best shipping rates around, and don’t think that other shipping brokers are somehow much better than Packlink when issues come up after shipment.
You can still revoke Packlink’s automatic withdrawal authorization in your PayPal settings.
The problem is that if you make a new payment, Packlink sets up the automatic withdrawal again.
Basically, you’d have to revoke the authorization for every payment you make.

·5 months agoUnfortunately, it's a scammy behavior that Packlink often puts into practice; the first thing to do is to remove the link with PayPal and pay only by card, after which the service can be used without problems, taking advantage of their rates, which are objectively among the best on the market.
I've shipped dozens of packages with them and they've never asked me for any charges; I advise against adding any contributions for insurance because in reality it protects NOTHING.

·5 months agoI have never paid directly by credit card, but from what I have read on the forum they SHOULD be able to take money even when paying by credit card, but I have no direct experience of this.
And anyway, if a packlink charge is not paid, what happens is that you get removed from the service.

·5 months agoEven with cash? Then no one is safe, it has to be removed with every transaction. I’ve been taking photos for a while now showing the weight and measurements of every package I ship, in case they want to try some kind of forced withdrawal.
It’s clear we’re right on the edge of ridiculous, because in their T&C they don’t state that the user is required to prove the weight and measurements of the packages with photo evidence (which they then ask for in disputes), but Packlink probably banks on that.

Wrong. you gave the authorization when you paid with PayPal for the first time PL.
It’s written in their terms of use, which you accepted by checking a simple box.
And, also in their terms of use, which you accepted by checking a simple box, it even says that they reserve the right to dispute weight and/or size discrepancies if the carriers detect them.
Advising you to set up a photo studio with cameras, scales, centimeters, meters, etc., all calibrated annually by the Metrological Institute. (the last part is obviously ironic and provocative...).
There are dozens of posts in this Forum where the rather opaque modus operandi of PackLink is discussed: I have already written several times (together with others) what I think, and I won't go into it any further.
