Why isn't the "pickup service" used by sellers as a common shipping option?
Summary: The thread discusses the reason why sellers do not commonly use the "pickup point service" as a shipping option. Several participants, including pa_33194233, marioelegio, and heavenwelkin, left comments, but the specific details of their replies are not provided. It seems there is interest in exploring users' opinions on this shipping practice.
Hello, I had the chance to use the “Punto di ritiro” service provided by eBay as a shipping option.
It’s a very convenient method for buyers because it works like an express courier service, usually delivering items in 4 or 5 business days, and the buyer can choose where to pick them up, either directly at the post office or at other partner shops (e.g. tobacco shops or stationery stores).
In particular, the costs are far lower than a courier or registered mail, and the item arrives and is delivered to a fixed pickup point, without the hassle of opening hours, delivery attempts, etc.
Why don’t sellers use this service, which would be very convenient for users?
I suggest making it a normal shipping service instead of registered mail, since you have to go to the post office anyway and it would provide a better service for buyers as well.

·5 months agoSellers have the option to disable this service (where it is still available as an option).
And considering the fact that pick-up points and lockers are inherently unsafe for them, they have every right to do so.
This is certainly not the place to add anything else, but as for the "how" with these systems a buyer has the chance to receive goods for free, just frequent the forums and groups related to platforms like "Vetusto" and "Immediato.it" to get an idea...

OP4 months agoLook, it's actually the opposite. If you use a registered letter or a courier as the shipping method for the item, you or whoever is at the shipping address at that moment has to be at home. Many times couriers toss things into gardens, packages even if they're fragile, and it will be hard to prove otherwise. With the fermopoint at the post office, on the other hand, the item has to be delivered to the post office, and there it has to remain for a certain amount of time. This is a GUARANTEE for the user that the item is delivered properly and also gives them more time to go and pick it up conveniently at the post office or at other businesses that are part of the fermopoint network.

·4 months agoThe TEMU marketplace has recently become so successful that the post office in my town had to rent a space ONLY to handle the mountain of TEMU parcels.
Parcels, packages, envelopes and little pouches piled up (thrown) on the sidewalks (because there were so many that they physically wouldn't fit inside the premises used for that service) the material spilled out on both sides of the street was left unattended.
This SURREAL scenario happened EVERY DAY.
If everyone chose Poste Italiane as a fermopoint, there COULD be an overflow of shipments that would be difficult for a simple post office to handle.
Let's say things are not as simple as they might seem......
Kind regards.

·5 months agoThe eBay pickup point service has been heavily limited, I assume due to issues attributable to the service itself.

I quote: Note well: some categories are no longer eligible for the Fermopoint pickup point option. You can still use Punto Poste pickup points if the seller offers this option.
if you can’t find the pickup point, the problem is the product category
or
The problem is that the seller has removed the service.

·5 months agoIt's up to the sellers.
Unfortunately today the service relies only on BRT's fermopoint and the postal service, but I hope that in the future they can also make arrangements with other networks.

OP4 months agoI agree anyway, even just the post offices that are present in all municipalities are already a guarantee. Moreover, there are also other possibilities, as you suggested, from BRT. Thank you
