Is it possible to sell €200,000 a year on eBay and not have a VAT number?
Summary: A discussion focused on the possibility of selling on eBay up to 200,000 euros a year without having a VAT number. The participants explored the legal and tax implications of such sales, noting that exceeding a certain threshold could require opening a VAT number to comply with tax regulations.
Good evening, I’m new and I wanted some clarification, maybe from someone who is more experienced than me
I came across a seller, professional, and he says he’s a representative, but he explicitly says he sells as a private individual.
He doesn’t really have many items, around fifty listings, but quite a few pieces and the average value is around 200 euros.
12,000 items sold. 1600 feedback, all positive.
I’ve looked into it a bit, also through contacts. He’s never had a VAT number, and only his employee income declarations show up.
So we’re not talking about sellers who make a bit extra, or who maybe try to get by, but here we’re talking about building a villa from the numbers I see,
if someone can report the account or is interested I can send them the shop name
but I was wondering how he can sell so calmly without any checks at all.

·9 months agoIt depends a lot on what kind of items this private account is selling.
If it is an old account, it is most likely a profile with no monthly selling limits.
(usually newer accounts have a selling limit of 2500 euro, so a private account above that amount cannot list items.
If it is a seller who mostly sells new items, with stock photos in multiple quantities, be sure that sooner or later ebay will ask for purchase invoices and force the seller to open a professional account.
If instead it is a private seller with mostly used items, selling individual pieces that are all different and not having many items in multiple quantity, using their own real photos, they will probably be able to keep selling on ebay as they are considered a private seller selling their own personal items.
As for the issue of the sales declarations they make, refer to DAC7, still active on ebay, where a private seller is reported to the tax authorities if they exceed 2000 euro or 30 annual sales.
Kind regards.

OP9 months agowith all due respect, these are just copy and paste.
Let me explain better, if you go over a certain amount of sales on eBay, eBay forces you to switch from private to professional. That doesn’t mean it forces you to open a VAT number, it simply means the fees go from 5% to 12, 15%. The address that shows up can perfectly well be fake, and you’re a seller who sells 200,000 euros a year and you don’t have a VAT number.
Whether the material is new or used is irrelevant, I’m referring to Italian law.
This is the seller’s link greletric2010 , judge for yourselves. I also suspect it may be stolen material because if you ask for explanations, or photos, he brushes off everything.

·9 months agoLuckily there are new users who explain to me how ebay works....
Anyway, checking this seller's profile, I can confirm that this is a professional seller.
If the listings are shown as a private seller, it's because of a known ebay BUG.
So you can rest assured that there's no need to report it.
Kind regards.

OP9 months agoit makes me even more perplexed to read these replies.
The registered address doesn’t exist, evidently you didn’t check.
It says so in the listing, I’m selling as a private individual.
There is no registered VAT number at all, evidently you’re confusing a private platform with the tax authority.
I’m saying this because, having contacts and having the seller’s details, I can assure you that the only declared income comes from salaried work, from a company that makes cables.
So that said, the fact that you confirm he is a professional seller just because it’s written there makes me think a lot about the superficiality of the users who browse here.
Or maybe because you see zero feedback then you think there’s a newbie behind it and feel you can lecture about taxes?
I’m reporting it because I have a VAT number, and the little smartasses get tiring after a while

·9 months agoThat seller, if he were a private individual, couldn’t be on eBay.

OP9 months agohe's a private individual, but I repeat, he says so himself.
The recorded data is false, there is no such address as via bari in bari.
Bticino is informed and says that he is neither one of their representatives nor, even less, a direct customer of the company.
I ask for help in reporting the seller to the relevant authorities,
if you don't trust it, you can safely ask for a quote and you'll see the reply you receive

·9 months agoAnd what exactly do you want from us forum users on eBay?
You know this discussion will have to be closed because there would be all the grounds for possible defamation and violation of privacy?
You're waging a crusade against a colleague of yours, and you're doing it the wrong way.
I'm now reporting the discussion to the moderator.
