Does international insured mail work for shipping to America?
Should I send it by international insured mail to a country where the postal service doesn’t provide tracking all the way to the destination, only up to the international exchange center? If anyone has experience, do you know whether the insurance is valid only up to the exchange center, or whether, if the buyer opens a claim, the postal service can carry out more detailed internal checks that aren’t publicly visible and therefore guarantee full insurance all the way to the destination?

·3 years agoChoose a carrier with tracking all the way to the destination. Otherwise you're already starting out at a disadvantage, in case of any disputes.

OP3 years agoI’m not referring to eBay, they would tell me to ask the post office, so what I mean is: if I then claim against the post office since I insured it for the full amount, do they have a way to do additional checks to see whether it arrived at its destination? Obviously only someone who has had a bad experience knows for sure how it works, unfortunately 😅

·3 years agoBut it’s clearly written on the post office website that ....Shipping is guaranteed in all the Countries in which the right to insurance is recognized. If the country isn’t on that list, they don’t guarantee it and therefore they don’t reimburse.

OP3 years agoThe countries on this list are more than 100, while those with full tracking all the way to destination are only 58. So according to this document, I’m covered even with the countries that have partial tracking. At this point, they could have also given users the ability to check for themselves and be more at ease, since they definitely have a way to check this, or they wouldn’t offer an insurance service

I’ve made several international shipments all over the place with registered mail, which in terms of how it works would be similar to insured international mail.
I’ve found that tracking doesn’t work to Canada, same thing for Australia.
In the United States it should work, but sometimes it has turned out not to work.
So overall (if you can afford it) it’s better to use an international courier like UPS, DHL, FeDex or TNT.
Regarding internal tracking, the post office may have better tracking than the one made available to us, but in any case if there are problems you’ll have to fill out the complaint form.
It has happened to me that once I submitted the complaint form they no longer contacted me, while another time they told me that the shipment to Canada had been delivered.
So you decide whether the juice is worth the squeeze.
I advise against shipping valuable items with this system; better an international courier (budget permitting), also because postal response times are quite long and on eBay if a complaint case is opened we have to resolve it in a short time.
Kind regards.

OP3 years agoAh, I thought that by calling they would check in real time, thanks for the info, I’ll drop the negotiation then
