Problem with shipment release from the USA
Good morning everyone,
I have a problem with a shipment coming from the USA.
Since 15/01/2024 on Poste Italiane the parcel has been showing as in transit with the detail "the verification for the release of the shipment is in progress".
If I look up the shipment on a generic tracking site, though, the shipment status is "Held in Customs. Your item is being held in Customs at 12:04 pm on January 15, 2024 in MILANO ROSERIO CSI, ITALY.MILANO ROSERIO CSI, ITALY".
I searched the Forum for some post similar to my situation, but I only found cases where Poste Italiane stated that some documents were missing for the release, which then got resolved automatically without the recipient being asked to request and send any documentation.
I would like to understand whether, if it had been held by customs, how many days can pass before being contacted by PI, and in what way (SMS, email, registered letter..).
At the beginning of January, with an eBay order coming from Japan with Fedex courier, held in customs, I was contacted directly the next day to send the tax details for the release.
Would it be advisable to contact Poste Italiane/Customs or wait a few more days?

·2 years agoWith generic couriers, a few days of waiting in customs is I think absolutely normal.
The wording more or less matches; being held in customs is equivalent to waiting for clearance. So keep an eye on the tracking and wait.
If the wait gets too long:

OP2 years agoGood morning Mario,
the courier handling the shipment is Poste Italiane, but I also searched the same tracking code on another shipment tracking site and it was much more detailed than Poste Italiane, which is how I noticed that it is stuck in customs.
I will wait a few more days in the hope that Poste Italiane releases the package without any problems, or at least gets back in touch with me.
