Purchase protection vs untracked shipments
Summary: danielep9798 asks for clarification on purchase protection in the case of an untracked shipment, specifically whether the buyer can report that they received an item. They are looking to sell some low-value books using cheap untracked shipping and so far have only had one case of non-delivery. daxsisko replies that even with the new protection, if a shipment is untracked, there is no proof of shipment, and the buyer could open a dispute for item not received.
Good morning everyone,
I’m probably just not capable, but I can’t find any information on this topic in the online help.
In short, with the new buyer protection, what happens in the case of untracked shipping?
Does the buyer have the option to report that they received the item?
I’m trying to get rid of some extra books, and for the low-value ones I’m offering ordinary book mail as shipping, which isn’t trackable. Before buyer protection, I had only one case where the buyer said they hadn’t received the item and I refunded them promptly. In all the other cases eBay always credited me the proceeds within a few days, even without feedback from the buyer.
With buyer protection, how does it work, aside from the fact that using untracked shipping still isn’t recommended?
Thanks to anyone who replies

·3 weeks ago · Editedmore or less the same thing happens as before....... untracked = you have no proof that you shipped it = the buyer (honest or not so honest...... ) can open a not-delivered-item dispute against you...... what can be different is that they may credit you the money after waiting more days......

For new private sellers who may be subject to transaction holds, we have introduced clear criteria to determine when funds may be made available within 48 hours of the buyer’s payment. As you build up your sales history and meet these criteria, funds are generally available more quickly. You can monitor your progress against these criteria in the Payments tab of Seller Hub or My eBay. (from https://www.ebay.it/help/selling/getting-paid/ricevere-i-pagamenti-per-gli-oggetti-venduti?id=4814&st=3&pos=1&query=Ricevere%20i%20pagamenti%20per%20gli%20oggetti%20venduti&intent=ricevere%20pagamenti&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1448)
For most orders, the shipping code helps determine when funds can be released. Once the buyer’s payment is confirmed, we recommend that you ship the item and upload the shipping code within the expected handling time.
If you choose not to use a tracked service to send your items, receiving the funds will generally take longer. For sales with local pickup, scanning or entering the buyer’s pickup code (QR code or 6-digit code) provides delivery confirmation.
