How many and which documents should I include in a UPS shipment abroad?
Hello everyone,
this is the first time I’ve sold something abroad. I sold the motherboard from my old PC and the buyer lives in the UK. I purchased the shipping through eBay with UPS.
I wasn’t given any particularly detailed instructions. Apart from the label, I filled out and put inside the package a FREE EXPORT DECLARATION and a CN23 customs declaration form (both in a single copy).
I have already dropped off the package at the UPS point; afterward, the clerk called me asking if I had left the invoice document on the package in triplicate and also a copy of my ID card, things I didn’t know I had to provide. I have some reservations about my documents, while as for the invoice document I wouldn’t know how to provide it since it’s a private sale. The same clerk wasn’t able to give me any more information; in the end he’s a tobacconist who acts as a UPS point, basically he doesn’t know whether those documents, as he described them to me, will really be needed or not. They’ll come to pick up the package on Monday in the early afternoon, and I still have time to add any additional documentation if necessary.
Does anyone with more experience know how to give me more info?

regarding what @@marioelegio says, the document in question would be fully and entirely identical to the CN23 form that I included in the parcel (though in a single copy, I didn’t understand whether 3 are needed). So this would count as an invoice.
for @@heavenwelkin , as I say in the post, I still have time to add extra documentation because the parcel will be picked up from the UPS center on Monday in the early afternoon. That’s why I’m asking for clarification.
In any case, I’m still confused. I’m waiting, if possible, for further input.

·3 years agoThe CN23 form is issued for postal shipments, if you use ups it is preferable to fill out this form here:

For this "customs invoice" you need 3 copies.
Regarding the invoice to attach, you need to enter the eBay one.

Next to the item you sold, click on "order details" and/or "see order details" and then print a copy and put it in the transparent pouch on the package.
Then you need to attach a copy of your ID document.

·3 years agoIf you were unsure, it would have been better to ask the forum before shipping.
The problem now is that if UPS receives a package with missing documentation, there are 2 possible outcomes:
A) The package is returned to the sender for missing documentation and you lose the shipping costs, so you will have to pay for a new shipment, making sure to attach everything that is required.
B) UPS contacts you and asks you to send the missing documentation.
So we’re waiting for UPS’s outcome, but keep in mind that without the invoice and without the document, the package stays in Italy.

·3 years agoThe invoice, for shipments to non-EU countries, is mandatory even for private individuals.
