How great is the shipping system outside eBay?

Honey, I only sell on Ebay and I also ship directly with Poste Italiane, and they also provide a simple QR code. No need to go far, as you can see.
I don't want to "pass judgment" but your post seems a bit biased to me... I mean, for example, I don't go on Mercedes' social page to write about how cool Volkswagen's guys are.
Let me ask you why you're here. I ask because I read about so many people complaining, complaining, complaining. They say they're moving on to other shores; yet they're always still here.....

OP1 year agoI don't excuse you and I don't forgive you, darling, if you only sell on eBay as you claim, you've never had any other experience, you'd do well to keep quiet if you truly wouldn't want to pass judgment while basically making fun of people, because then you don't just give opinions but verdicts, I'm here because I basically worked 10 years for eBay, posting listings and taking photos of my used stuff, I worked for eBay, it's a two-way thing if I made some money by satisfying all the customers, Volkswagen and Mercedes have absolutely nothing to do with it because because if I worked for either of the two, I would appreciate, highlight, bring to the forefront what works in the competition and what is debatable in my company to improve it .

·1 year agoWhat a great example of a citizen, a private account selling items in professional quantities, after harshly criticizing the community, the sales site is rightly suspended and his response is to make a new account to keep up his harassing activity.
Reporting it and hoping the proper actions are taken, including legal ones, is the least that can be done.

If I show the already-paid label saved on my smartphone at the counter, how does it work?
I imagine the counter only applies the shipping code (the white one to stick on) and then does the package need to have the sender/recipient address on it, or at least the recipient’s?

OP1 year agoYou just don't get it … the nice thing isn't just having a QR code, (besides not having to have a printer, paper, cartridges), the nice thing is that the shipping payment the customer makes to the platform (which on eBay even ends up in the receipts) isn't done by you, they take care of everything, organizing the shipment and giving you only a QR code. And that's how it should be! Clear? Or do I need to draw you a picture?

Selling on other platforms means experimenting with different ways of selling.
Every marketplace has its pros and cons.
I have never had the pleasure of handing the parcel over to a courier or drop-off point without any shipping label.
Basically the courier should weigh and measure the parcel on the spot (in the van)?
I’m rather reluctant to trust this method blindly, because who tells me that the courier or drop-off point will immediately enter the label and that it will be the one corresponding to my name and not someone else’s?
What if it happens that there is more than one parcel with no identifying label?
It doesn’t take much to mix one parcel up with another.
If the courier has several labels to print, mistakes could happen.
At every step that is delegated and left to others, the risk of error increases.
I agree that this method lets you avoid downloading labels to print or taking them somewhere to be printed, but at what cost?
Couriers aren’t on the clock because they have hundreds of parcels a day to ship and often also more pickups to do before the day is over, and they’re always in a rush.
Personally I would avoid it unless you can have the label printed and then checked in your presence (if that’s even possible because I have no idea).

OP1 year agoYes, what you’re saying in the case of multiple packages may seem problematic at first glance, you just need to show a QR code to the courier, he takes care of printing and applying the label, but you just need to organize yourself, in the sense that even with labels printed by you, in the case of multiple packages with the same packaging you still need to keep track of the packages and contents so you don’t get confused. It’s always good practice anyway, the old postal method, in any case, sender and recipient details added in case the label gets lost or gets wet. The system is simple, there are weight brackets with size tolerances at the time of listing, they basically do a flat rate. You don’t have to look for the courier that works in that country or that costs you less, you don’t care about anything, they take care of it, even for returns. This is very nice because you don’t have to front all the shipping costs like happens with eBay.

OP1 year agoAnd the InPost service with other marketplaces is nice too, you print the label yourself, always without paying shipping or calculating the rate, the label comes to you by email, you print it, stick it on the parcel and ship with the lockers, electronic lockers around the cities, you scan the label, a door opens and you're done, in that case I drop it off 200 meters from home, they are very fast shipments, and again you don't advance any money and receive the full net amount of the product without commissions as soon as the customer confirms receipt and that the product is as described.

If I’m not mistaken, the InPost service could also be used without it being managed directly by the marketplace.
Already relying on a shipping broker (which is what they do for a living) means being subject to constraints and limitations compared to a direct courier.
I can only imagine how shipping by Vinted and Subito might be handled in case of theft, loss, or damage.
If the buyer pays for the label, how does it work with package insurance?
As far as I know, the buyer can choose the pickup point or home delivery, but there are no options regarding package insurance.
Then, since the buyer has to pay for the label and the marketplace has to issue it, how does it work in case a parcel is damaged or lost?
Who is responsible for the shipment? The seller, the marketplace, or the buyer who did not insure the package because that option was not available?
All this information is not clear and is not included in the FAQ.
Ebay is a complex and multifaceted platform because the dynamics around a sale are complex and multifaceted too.
On Subito I see a lot of sneaky people selling bulky items using the small label (the €3.99 one); if they do it, it means the thing is doable.
And since the buyer has to pay for the label, in the case of a bulky parcel who would pay the difference?
All these conveniences and simplifications are perfectly fine ONLY if, in the event of post-sale problems, it’s the marketplace that takes responsibility and fixes it.
I admit I don’t know the world of Vinted, and on Subito I only sell with local pickup, so I can’t really go much further in comparing services I’ve never used.
So I welcome a discussion on this issue.

I’d like to remind you that eBay is still dominant in used-item sales, there are no valid alternatives, except subito or vinted, even if I wouldn’t count subito much because it’s packed full of scammers, while vinted is expanding, so getting back to the point, not everything eBay offers is gold, criticism, if constructive, is welcome.

You know better than I do that on vinted you can't sell used Mercedes parts .... so as I see it, if there are no equally valid alternatives, you stay where you are, continuing "eventually" to philosophize on the forum.

OP1 year agoFirst package shipped to Spain, it ended up missing after a month, no dispute I received the money for the package and the customer received a refund. Wake up.

I imagine you ran into some unexpected issues.....
This protection mechanism also applies to shipments that are part of the ebay global shipping program service.
But it only works in the UK and USA, when the seller sends the package to a national ebay-affiliated handling and sorting center (in this specific case Pitney Bowes) which takes care of international shipping and customs clearance.
If the package gets lost, the seller doesn't lose their money and the buyer gets refunded.
Actually, the shipping labels for subito or vinted are generated directly by them and I imagine that in case the package is lost there aren't any hassles or complex procedures like with packlink, where if you don't follow the procedures you aren't protected.
As you yourself stated, the seller is protected without having to do anything.
To open a claim for loss, you have to go to the packlink website and the procedures are rather complicated.
From this point of view, objectively speaking, ebay has shipping service integrated into the platform but for any problem you have to contact packlink.
Out of curiosity: Where were you able to ship a mercedes spare part to in Spain? On vinted?
