Are you here?
the question comes up naturally but why on eBay do sellers charge you for returns while on Amazon it's free
I want to make it clear that I'm willing to pay for the return too, but if I got it wrong, it's mine!
but if I got it wrong, it's not mine but the seller's, and it doesn't seem fair to me to have to pay for a return
thank you in advance for your replies

·2 years agoFirst of all, it needs to be made clear that Amazon and eBay are 2 different platforms.
- Amazon sells and ships items directly and uses its now well-known mega-logistics setup, which it also makes available to third-party sellers who use its platform.
- eBay provides the platform to both private and professional sellers, but it doesn’t sell anything and doesn’t ship anything; it only intermediates and provides support in case of problems.
Having said that, on eBay too you are entitled to a free return in case of an item received defective or wrong (in both cases non-compliant). And this applies to all sellers, private and professional.
The only difference concerns the right to change your mind within 14 days, which must be guaranteed only by professional sellers; the same goes for the warranty within the EU.
The free return for change of mind that Amazon grants within 30 days is an extra offered by the platform thanks to its logistics and organization, but beyond 14 days it is not always free.

·2 years agoIf you receive an item different from what you ordered, for example different measurements, different color, etc., you can open a case for an item not as described.
In this case the return shipping costs are the seller’s responsibility.
If, on the other hand, you received EXACTLY the item you ordered but for any reason you decide to send it back, then it is correct that the return shipping costs are your responsibility.
Kind regards.

·2 years agoIt’s not Amazon or eBay that decide who has to pay the return shipping costs; these things are regulated by laws.
So even on eBay, if the mistake is the seller’s, they will have to pay for the return. The return is paid by the buyer only in the case of a change of mind.
eBay has been following these rules for many years.
