Made in the USA
Hello,
I bought an item from the USA but I want to return it.
Sorry for my ignorance, once I’ve packed it and put in the address, where do I need to go to send the package back, to a private carrier or to Poste Italiane?
Unfortunately, this is something new for me

·2 years agoThese days I don't have much chance to be on the forum, so I'm writing you a rough summary of the situation.
Here you can download the pro forma invoice
https://yellohu.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Fattura-Proforma.pdf
at point 5 you have to select RETURN but you need to write on a sheet in English that you are making a return and you have to explain the reason and attach the original purchase invoice and you have to specify that you have already paid the import costs.
With the CN23 form, I don't know if you can do this return step.
Because otherwise what happens is that the seller will refuse to pay the import costs and the package will remain stuck in customs and then you will have to find a way to contact customs (but it's not always easy) and find a way to pay the customs fees yourself so the item can get back to the seller.
Keep in mind that international registered mail has tracking that doesn't work very well in the USA and you could end up with delivery status that at some point gets stuck and no longer moves forward.
So it would be better to ship with an international courier, but the costs are rather high.
If you bought an item for $20, in my opinion it's absolutely not worth it because you would end up paying much more just for the international courier......
Not to mention all the customs red tape with the risk of paying again for export.
Best regards.

·2 years agoThe $20 referred to the cost incurred by the seller at his shipper (USPS, that is, the US Postal Service, or a courier).
Obviously, from Italy it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get away with it for 18 euros....
It depends on the weight and dimensions of the package.
You’d do well to pack everything carefully, go to the Post Office and ask for the CN23 form, where you will indicate the value of the contents and the purpose of the export.
The clerk will then assign the TARI code to the item you are shipping.
The recipient will have to take care of paying any customs duties (VAT, that is, VAT and customs clearance costs).
That’s why it’s worth weighing the pros and cons before proceeding...

OP2 years agoNo, the 20 USD I always paid myself during the purchase.
So you're recommending I do the shipment at the post office? A little while ago someone said it costs an arm and a leg.

·2 years agoSimply because the operator can help you fill out the documents needed for export... if you buy online you'll have to handle it yourself...
Best regards.

·2 years agoObviously, you paid the $20 to the seller...
And, as the always excellent @sika700 pointed out again, I simply stated that the export procedure when shipping with Poste is easier because it only requires one form to be filled out under the supervision of the clerk at the counter.
I never said it was cheaper.
If you can do everything yourself, you can just as well use a courier through a broker and (maybe) save something.
However, you will have to fill out the pro-forma invoice and customs declaration.
And you will have to do it correctly, because if you make one comma mistake, everything will be sent back to you with the related costs added on.
So I firmly reiterate what was said above: "That's why it's worth weighing the pros and cons before proceeding..."

·2 years agoIt’s not that simple as it might seem.
If you can, explain in more detail what kind of problem you had, because it’s not like you just go to the post office, write the address, and send everything back........
There are customs forms to fill out, some procedures to follow, and then shipping from the post office would cost you an arm and a leg.
What kind of problem did you run into with this purchase?
Have you tried contacting the seller to explain the problem?
Kind regards.

OP2 years agoFirst of all, thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately, shipping will be at my expense, so I’ll have to send it back from Italy to the US myself.
Simply put, the product isn’t what I expected. The description was missing a detail that I forgot to ask about.
So how can I arrange a shipment?

·2 years agoyou need to take into account that there is various customs documentation to fill out (see old discussions on the forum).
Because the seller will not pay the customs costs.
You need to fill out the pro forma invoice so that it shows that it is a return...
Then for shipping, check the shipping rates on eBay Shipping, which are certainly cheaper than those you would pay at the post office.
Don't be in too much of a hurry to ship and study the procedures carefully because otherwise you risk the package being held in customs storage and then you having to pay import costs again at your expense because the seller will refuse to pay them.
Best regards.

OP2 years agoOk where can I find all this documentation to pay for?
Anyway, at the time of purchase I paid 20 dollars + 18 in VAT.
Will shipping always stay at 20 dollars or could it increase?

·2 years agoWhat kind of return?
Because if it's at your expense, you're the one who decides the type of service and therefore the relative methods.
If it's at the seller's expense, he's the one who decides and therefore you'll have to adapt to the type of transport he chooses.
