Payment Request for Customs Fees upon Delivery from Italian Post
I purchased an item where it was specified, in the payment form, that: No additional customs fees will be applied.
The postman, upon delivery of the item, however demanded 6.76 euros for customs fees and handling charges for the case.
I called eBay's call center twice for explanations but, despite being assured that they had made a note of it and that I would be contacted again, no one ever got back to me.
After that I also wrote to eBay but never received a reply.
At this point I would like to know the meaning of the above wording: No additional customs fees will be applied, since maybe I misunderstood it.

·2 years agoThey are belles of the post office, now I don't know the value of the item but I assume that she did not pay the customs fees but a fixed cost at the post office only for handling the case
In the case of customs duties the costs are split but that is not your case

·3 years agoThis happens because Italian post offices pretend not to know about these agreements.
There would be a possibility, but it’s a long road to go down. You have to fill out the form at the link below, and send it to ... still to be understood where.

You’re reading the wrong table, the one with exemption under 45 euros is the one for non-commercial shipments,
It clearly says that these are shipments that: are not made in exchange for payment in any form. In fact, to avoid similar doubts, as an example it says: the university student in Italy who receives an item from a parent residing in a non-EU country.

·3 years agoFrom what I read on Poste's site https://business.poste.it/professionisti-imprese/contenuto/brexit-e-commerce.html customs duties by law are due only for transactions above 45 euros (price + shipping). Otherwise you don't have to pay anything.

·3 years agoThat only applies to Brexit.
Since July 2021 things have changed for all non-EU countries, so the United Kingdom is now non-EU.
So customs charges, VAT and any duties (item value + shipping over €150) have to be paid.

·4 years agoIf you paid, for example, 100 euros in customs duty + VAT in advance and you have to receive the item via postal service, they take 5 euros for the trouble.
Now I don't know why you paid 6.76 euros, since on the table only charges of ZERO, 2 euros, 5 euros and 15 euros are listed
We would certainly need a few more details.

·4 years agoI, personally, got tired of this and only order in Italy and, if forced to, from EU countries. I also used to buy from the UK, because they have so much good, quality stuff there (a lot imported from the USA)
But with the advent of Brexit, shipping costs have gone through the roof and not only that; I was starting to run into the same customs fee problems I had when I ordered from the USA; the same problems you're having now. Sellers claimed there would be no additional customs costs beyond the ones included in the purchase (already high), and then, as usual, the Post Office would stick its oar in and ask for payment of customs duties (which were 40% assorted fees and Post Office taxes). Complaining and saying that the customs duties had already been paid at the time of purchase was of no use at all!
Now, to avoid this ordeal, I don't order outside Italy anymore!

·2 years agoYou're right, with Brexit they shot themselves in the foot from this point of view because customs costs have become exorbitant.
