Refund
Good morning, I haven’t bought very much on eBay in the last few months paying through PayPal, but I want to tell you about this one: on December 4 Matt bought an item thinking it was suitable for what I needed, in the afternoon unfortunately after an unpleasant discovery, we canceled the purchase with the seller and he immediately issued the refund.
I waited confidently from the next day for that refund transaction to show up in the PayPal account and in the bank account from which the money was taken, but to my surprise after 9 days nothing has happened. On PayPal there is the refund note but from there no one knows where MY MONEY HAS GONE... I call PayPal and they tell me to wait until the 14th, I call eBay and they give me a refund code which, once communicated to PayPal, they must carry out the immediate refund to the account, but that is not the case.
But what is happening with these 2 operators?!?! Are they competing for WHO CAN HOLD ON TO THE MONEY THE LONGEST AND EARN INTEREST?!!

·2 years agoGood morning
Refunds are never immediate, so if you need the money to make another purchase, UNFORTUNATELY you'll have to wait even two or three weeks.....
If you pay with PayPal which draws from the credit card, the money reaches eBay which works through bank transfers, and if the seller has issued a refund they had to draw from their current account by starting a transfer that then has to go to PayPal which has to process it and then credit it to your credit card which is linked to your bank account, and with all these steps and payment methods different from one another, refund times inevitably get longer....
Kind regards.

OP2 years ago@have fortunately I don't have an urgent need, but to move the money to a current account is easy, but when it comes to returning it, the times strangely get longer, could it be that it suits someone for them to eat thousands of EUR in commissions?!?! This question arises spontaneously....
Anyway, according to you, before I see the credited money back in my current account, do I have to wait another week?

·2 years agoGood morning,
eBay has nothing to do with it... if you paid via direct debit from your bank account, the timing depends only on PayPal, the credit to your account usually takes 15 to 20 days... much faster if you had paid by card.
So, now that you know, you'll be aware of it for the future.
Kind regards.

OP2 years ago@sika the credit to my account happened only after 2 days, specifically on the 6th, whereas the reversal or refund has been missing for 9 days now..... that it is more immediate on the card is another thing, definitely something to use, but having funds only in my checking account without a card, I’m forced to pay that way.

·2 years agoYou shouldn’t be surprised by anything... when it’s time to pay, they take the money quickly... when it’s time to give it back, they take all the time they want... that’s Paypal!
So expect timelines of 15/20 days...
Kind regards.

OP2 years agoAm I right in saying that they live off the interest by keeping money that isn't theirs idle, if I keep them parked in my PayPal account that's fine, but if I ask for them to be transferred to my bank account, there is no way I'm waiting more than 2 weeks.

OP2 years agoThe refund was made today; to take them they were credited in 2 days in my checking account, to get them back 10 days.....these 8 days who knows in which interest-bearing current account they were sitting......but everything is allowed.

·2 years agoThe important thing is that you sorted it out.
Anyway, the timing is reasonable in my opinion because eBay starts a bank transfer from the seller's account that goes to PayPal.
And that takes a few days....
Then PayPal has to process the payment and convert it to transfer it back to the credit card.
And that takes a few days....
Then the payment has to be processed by the bank and credited back to the account.
And that takes a few days....
Best regards.
