Shipment not delivered due to recipient absence
Summary: The discussion concerns a delivery problem involving a shipment that was not completed because the recipient was absent. sheena94_7 raises the issue, and several other participants, including marioelegio and heavenwelkin, engage in discussing possible solutions or explanations. The main interaction focuses on handling the failed delivery and possible next steps.
Hi everyone.
On January 14 I sold a book, shipped via tracked BRT shipping. The courier made 2 failed delivery attempts, after which the package was left in storage. After a couple of days I wrote to the buyer as a reminder, but they’re not responding, nor are they going to pick up the package. Through Packlink I released the shipment, and today yet another delivery attempt was made, which of course failed. The user still has 250 reviews, all positive.
I was told by Packlink support that in case of return to sender by BRT, I would have to pay for the shipping again, but that way I’d end up at a loss. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks to anyone who replies.

·7 months agoIf you had shipped with Poste instead of BRT, you wouldn’t have paid for the return.
Now try to figure out how these reshipping costs will be charged to you.
If Packlink takes money from you for the return, I think there’s not much you can do.....
Every now and then it can happen that a sale doesn’t go through for the most varied reasons, including a recipient not being there.
As far as eBay is concerned, the situation gets complicated if the buyer opens a case for an item not received and you decide not to refund them and/or make an arrangement with them about the refund.
Because if the case then goes to eBay, you’ll almost certainly have to refund them and you’ll also have to pay the extra fees.
If instead the buyer doesn’t open any claim and 30 days pass, as far as eBay is concerned you’re in the clear with the buyer.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Kind regards

OP7 months agoActually, I had Ebay customer service call me, and they told me that, since the tracking shows there were several failed delivery attempts because the buyer was absent, he is no longer covered by the Ebay customer guarantee and I am not obliged to refund anyone, not even if he were to open an INR case, especially since there is a chance I would end up at a loss because of the return-to-sender costs.
Anyway, I used BRT because with Poste I had tons of service issues and delays, with resulting complaints from buyers about the chosen shipping service. In this case, though, the fault is NOT mine.

·7 months agoIn theory it should be like the support told you, but things don’t always go that way....
If you can, let us know how the possible dispute with the buyer ends up.
Kind regards.

·7 months agoYou need to reach an agreement with the buyer.
Either they send you the costs of a new shipment in advance via PayPal, or you partially refund them (excluding shipping costs).

OP7 months agoAs I wrote, the buyer doesn’t respond to any messages, and there’s nothing to refund since I’d end up at a loss if BRT sent the package back, because I’d have to pay for the shipping again. In fact, if anything, it’s the buyer who should give me some extra money!
