Hello, I’m a professional seller with a flat-rate VAT number, and I’d like to understand how and when the fee for sales outside the European Union is applied. Sometimes it’s charged, sometimes not — I don’t understand. eBay customer service can’t answer me. I’m exempt from VAT, so in Italy it’s neither added nor charged. I don’t know about abroad, but it seems to be applied at random. Thanks

·3 years agoGood morning,
you should kindly clarify exactly what you're asking... you mention the "fee for sales outside the European Union"... then you talk about VAT that "is being charged to me at random"...
So, the fee is one thing, the VAT on commissions is another thing...
For the fees, try reading here:
Fees for professional sellers | eBay
For VAT, if you have correctly registered your VAT number on ebay, it should not be charged... in this case, as a flat-rate taxpayer, remember not to exceed the annual foreign purchase amount of €10,000, otherwise you will have to pay VAT on it and with your regime that is absolutely counterproductive.
Kind regards.

·3 years agoeBay customer service doesn’t know how to answer you because it’s understaffed and not well trained for the platform’s needs, and then add the move of the service overseas and the damage is done. You could also decide to sell only within the EU, given the duties and taxes increased after the new 2021 regulations; also consider the cost of duties falling on you in the event of a return, I’m not sure it’s worth it outside the EU anymore.

·3 years agoAbroad, VAT (which has different names) is applied for countries outside the European Union, and it can vary depending on the different states.
